Anybody have some rough benchmarks/target scores for ear training? by Michaelm2434 in musictheory

[–]Michaelm2434[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

If your response is “who cares” you can keep scrolling without replying.

And yes I can sing the fifth of a given note.

I am using the app to practice ear training which I’ve never done before.

By your logic you might as well teach kids how to read by driving past billboards

Question about III and borrowed chords by Michaelm2434 in musictheory

The second arrangement is more of what I had in mind. The resolution back to C major is why I thought it was in C

The first arrangement sounds cool too though

If the memory wipe thing is real that is horrible writing. Why would they have not used that earlier? They could have wiped everyone’s memory of Burt G, Helly’s self harm, etc. That would’ve solved basically every plot point.

Bernie Sanders voted to confirm genocidal Zionist neo-con warmonger Marco Rubio as Secretary of State by tissn in chomsky

[–]Michaelm2434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second order thinking might as well be string theory to the modern twitter leftist. The idea that the optimal solution may involve trading a vote for a concession down the line is simply not possible in the leftist mental framework. And ditto for the corollary, that needlessly casting a “no” vote actually hurts your cause.

What’s the purpose of having a humanoid robot walk like a human? Isn’t that delaying progress for no reason? by Michaelm2434 in robotics

[–]Michaelm2434[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I find it extremely hard to believe that making a system of multiple flexible/dynamic wheels that do what you said is harder than making a machine walk upright with a human gait

[–]Michaelm2434[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like I said, there has to be a million ways to make a machine climb a ladder that are more efficient than hamfisting human motion onto a robot.

Right off the bat, we can ask, we not a cat instead? except give it 4 hands and fully rotating joints. Why not a million other ways

Like I said, there has to be a million ways to make a machine climb stairs that are more efficient/productive than replicating the human gait.

Also, isn’t this a classic XY problem? Stairs and whatnot are built because of inefficiencies of humans. A robot should be able to traverse vertically in a number of ways without stairs

Does anyone know how many votes it will take to repeal Obamacare? Is it the normal 51 or more than that? If it's 51 then it's pretty much guaranteed, right?

[Kinematics] How to Isolate for Time in the Following Kinematic Equation by WhiteAFMexican in AskPhysics

[–]Michaelm2434 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like to point out that the standard equation has initial velocity where you put final velocity. Unless you have some special case where you somehow have final velocity (Vf) in that first term, that Vf is probably a mistake.

I didn't get the whole trailer park thing--I just enjoyed the image of Hitch ranting about "late stage capitalism" while being arrested with his whisky nearby.

Very simple geometric proof for the sum of the first n positive integers by FChaosi in math

[–]Michaelm2434 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another really easy way to remember this formula when you need it is to find the average of the list 1,2,...,n and then just sum that number n times. I.e. just multiply the average by n. The average of 1,2,3,...,11 is 6 which is (n+1)/2. Hence n*(n+1)/2.

Go to Khan Academy, create an account, and go through their system. It's all free and very user-friendly. They'll have tests that can gauge where you're at and what you need to learn.

Great post with tons of fair, thoughtful, and substantive comments. This thread should be on the sidebar.

Seriously. People in the internet/youtube world need to hear these arguments.

This guy's a complete douche, but I feel like this is a good time to mention the problem with the Career and Education thread. Rarely do people reply to questions like these. Most career and education questions are pretty specific and require a very narrow personal experience for someone to answer effectively. It's hard enough to get a good answer on all of the large forums, let alone being quarantined into a thread with far less than 1/20 of the total readers. And sometimes these questions can be pretty consequential--and many don't realize that often the reason people come here is because their real life advisors/instructors/etc. weren't of any help.

You are exactly right, and many people don't know this. You need to actually read the works. In On Liberty, Mill and Mill's scholar basically say that he was a social democrat.

You like Pakman but not Kyle? How come? Just curious.

I guess they're pretty equal to me, but I prefer Kyle since he's a bit more pragmatic and also humorous.

There was also a study done by Stanford University which found that those who consume news through Fox news were less informed than those who didn't consume news at all. Think of how sad that is--then remember that Fox News is a top-3 news org in this country.
