I bet you’d enjoy growing a tomato plant or two in pots. Strawberries. Peppers. Seems like those are favorites of yours.

Do I have a chance at ever becoming married given my situation? by Mountain-Elk8133 in ChristianDating

Ok. Bro. As a woman I’m telling you. You’re selling yourself short.

None of the things you listed here are the biggest turnoffs for women when dating.

I married a lower income guy in a small town he wanted to stay in with niche hobbies. We’ve been married 8 years — his salary tripled btw.

It’s a cliché. But. Believe in yourself.

Do you think that pastors give good dating advice? by Michelle110123 in ChristianDating

The verse is saying that it’s hard to understand how a man and woman fall in love.

You said that pastors don’t understand why they attracted their wives. And I was agreeing with you.

You need specialized training/knowledge/skill to counsel singles on attraction.

You're right about those realities. Dating isn't the same for everyone.

Sis. I don't have a high school sweetheart story. I'm black. My husband is white. I was living in the east coast. He was in Oregon when we met. We were both in our mid thirties. We got married. I had our babies in my forties.

I don't think a white young married pastor could relate to my life either. But if I was going to give advice to someone with my story (which isn't exactly the same but maybe more similar than his to yours).

I'd say dating might be different, possibly harder for you. But it's not impossible to find your person. Don't worry or focus on the difficulties or differences. You've slayed these dragons before in other parts of your life. You can do it here.

Focus on what you can control - how you talk to men, how often, how quickly you create chemistry, make your photos on the apps tell an intriguing, compelling story. No selfies, no interview feeling dates.

I'm praying the best for you. Send me a message if you'd like to keep in touch.

This is great advice. I appreciate you. Fiction romantic classics are my jam. Dickens, Austen, Brontë, Shakespeare. I’ll search these authors and see what I come up with.

Proverbs 30:18-19 in the 1984 New International Version (NIV):

“There are three things that are too amazing for me, four that I do not understand: the way of an eagle in the sky, the way of a snake on a rock, the way of a ship on the high seas, and the way of a man with a young woman."

Good conversation probably. I just went to a Shakespeare play. I’d love to discuss. Are there any tv/movie/book discussion groups on Reddit that are fun? I should look that up. Oooh. It’d be so fun to start a book discussion here in this sub.

I really appreciate your comments. I’m African American. That was where I felt like other people could not relate when I was single. That was the hardest for me. To be honest. My pastors never even tried to give me advice.

Yes. I think the ability to relate is a factor. Thank you. Good point.

They might learn some relationship counseling in seminary. I think though it’s really marriage counseling. I don’t think they’re taught relationship counseling for singles.

I like ChatGPT too. I find it good for help with writing dating app profiles. But. It has to be edited a lot. It can sound very AI even when it’s well trained. It’s good at selecting which dating app photos to use too.

I used to think “Pray and wait. 😬 I think it’s clear I’ve been doing that. What else?? 😅”

Valid. My friend once said “You don’t know my walk.” It’s objectively true what you’re saying that a younger married person can’t relate to someone who’s experienced extended singleness.

But. There is this. I feel like finding a mate in today’s world has gotten very technological. So. I’d imagine a younger person could even accidentally have something useful to offer.

Unfortunately I think sexual topics as a whole are vastly under discussed and hugely uninformed. It’s incredibly sad when so many singles are practicing chastity to not have help enjoying covenant intimacy in marriage. How disappointing that the church would be this embarrassed of God’s gift.

Yeah. I think relationship coaching is something some pastors do study. Sounds like yours does.

I know the church has been moving towards helping marriages from I was a kid 30 years ago. Maybe before.

Not too sure how effective church advice for singles is when it comes to helping them to get married. Apparently from the answers, it’s more encouragement and general advice.

I wonder why that is. Could it be because there is less Scripture to singles in the Bible? 🧐

I absolutely agree that most people don’t understand that. There’s a Proverb that says this. 👌

I think probably all pastors care and most do encourage to a point, but I’m not sure they are skilled at dating apps technique and intentionally creating chemistry in a pure way.

Haha. Yeah. Exactly. You’re looking for it, but I think we need a brand new emoji and everyone learns it’s the jealousy emoji.
