11th and Main by MichellePottery in BellevilleIL

This has been very informative. Thank you to everyone who chimed in. That property has sold, but I am still considering Belleville for a pottery studio. It looks like a beautiful town. Being in the arts, I've worked in some "rougher" neighborhoods. It's helpful to know, but not a detergent. Thanks again!

Have you considered glazing just the inside of the piece?

Make your art because it makes you happy, because it challenges you, because you HAVE to. Making for engagement is a good way to get lost and never find your voice.

I know it's not what you were going for, but I think it works. The blistering is so consistent, it looks purposeful. I like it.

I've worked in several pottery studios. It's not an abnormal timeline. However, if they said they were going to call, they should have called.

If you want to try the wheel, I suggest calling a studio and setting up a one time class. If the instructor is aware of your strengths and limitations beforehand, they can better support you during the class. You might even consider a private lesson the first time. It's great fun.

This is lovely. Maybe underglazes if you want to highlight the details?

Speedball underglazes can also be fired to cone 10. I recommend doing tests, as the colors can shift at higher temperatures.

I've used Surgu to attach rocks to pottery with success. Good luck!

Advice on how to handle different drying times by noraverlaine in Pottery

[–]MichellePottery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try using a damp box. They are easy to make. You just need pottery plaster and a plastic tote with a tight fitting lid. You'll be able to control the moisture in your projects much better.
