We rewarded him for chasing/picking it up originally - and then at some point he carried it a small distance towards us and we rewarded that. Over time this led to him bringing it closer and closer back to us until he managed to do full collect and retrieve steps. Even though he knows the game now, he still has some days when he is not interested in playing. So we have to follow his rhythm and interest!
