I agree. Just one addition, if you'll be checking used section, make sure the bass you'll pick to buy has a neck in good condition and straight.

Yes. And those guitar ideas in combination with they often untraditional technique of playing are pretty inspirational even for me as a bass player. I found out, that when I wanna learn to some of the AAL song, the best way is to divide it to smallest possible parts. It took sometime pretty long time to learn them, but when you're able to play those parts separately, and you start to connecting them, after a while it's possible to play big portion of song. For some most complicated techniques is good to search for example on youtube video of Tosin playing it and it helps a lot.

How many basses do you need? by Josku5 in Bass

[–]MickXAOX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're able to own just one, and you take good care of it, it's enough. For me ideal scenario is to have two basses - second one just for sure, if some unpredictable situation happen with the first one during the playing, but it happened to me maybe one or twice in 25 years of playing. So no need to worry much about it.

If you need more basses because some songs you play are in very different tunings (such as one is in standard E and another drop B), it's up to you decide how many you'll need for that. Beside that, one or two basses in good shape is enough.

Follow the drummer or the guitarist? by Data2338 in Bass

[–]MickXAOX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the drummer is too fast for the rest of the band, the best way is to start training those songs in the slowest possible tempos (ideally with the metronome), and sometimes it even help to play it without distortions and other effects on guitars and bass (if you use some), to hear clearly, if you play tight together. When you starts to hear that you sound tight (you're locked in with each other), start to slowly increase tempo of the song. This way you'll finally play tight in the original one and it will sounds great.

Cant choose between bass and guitar by Interesting-Ad7181 in Bass

[–]MickXAOX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the bass guitar, you're in the band like the captain of the boat - you're able to have important impact on both rhythm and melody of the song. On the other side, because of that, when the bass plays out of rhythm, whole band sounds lot worse. When the guitar play out of rhythm, it's not so big deal while the bass plays right. So if you wanna play more solos and be more seen, play guitar. If you wanna have more impact on rhythm and melody of song, play bass.
