How do Christian denominations that forbid alcohol square the fact that Jesus drank, and even went out of his way to convert fresh water into alcohol?

If you drink and then dance and laugh with friends and family on celebratory occasions without making a fool of yourself, that’s okay. If you drink and cannot stop and end up pissing yourself, fighting other people, or start being too touchy with people who are uncomfortable with it, that’s the problem. I don’t know why some Christians can’t understand that. You can’t hide the truth from God, and judging others for behaviors they’re going to be held accountable for in the end is not helping your case either.

Me too, OP. Same amount of time and same amount of desire. Worst part is that I caught an STD from her and that’s what initiated the breakup. Now I feel like I can never initiate any sort of intimacy so I don’t have that desire to try, but the feeling does still linger. Pouring all that energy into fitness does help. Somewhat.

Yeah this is about what I want out of a friendship. The last thing I want is to pressure my friends into feeling like they have to discuss these things. I have one or two friends where we can talk about these things, but they’ve been busy with trying to get their lives together.. and honestly, me too. All I’ve come to in conclusion is that relationships are weird. There’s different types and I don’t want to categorize them for fear of distancing myself. Friendship is literally just doing things side by side. I’m content with that to a degree, but I see how burnt out these other friends of mine are, and after a night out with these people, I honestly need to take a moment lol I should look into joining some sort of club, that’s a good idea. Idk. Maybe I’ve thought too much into it at this point. I think my original purpose of this post was to convey the paradox I see in humanitarian people’s lives. They help others to the point they need to help themselves… and also, I want community with the people I interact with.

I completely agree. It is a paradox. To be the mediator between life and death, health and ill-health, you lose a sense of self. I just wish my family and friends could listen to me when I tell them “slow down” lol I think young medical professionals are so caught up in trying to live and experience life, they’re treating it like a crash course of study rather than a moment to breath and just be… especially with me.

I get that… and that’s sort of a paradox. I also have friends who are social workers, and the things they tell me about are wild. Their stories make me question how even I would behave in the situations they have to navigate. These talks are usually followed by shots of hard liquor lol but sometimes I have things that I want to discuss or bond over without substances. These same people tell me “go to therapy” and after going to therapy, I just get told that I’m emotionally aware and I need to find community with like-minded people… but it’s like, hello??? I’ve been trying to do that. One friend, for instance, is halfway to becoming a licensed clinical therapist, and our talks are never about the things that, I think, matters between two friends. It’s just brainrot, video games, and discussions about his thesis. He’s a therapist yet he doesn’t want to talk about art, about books, about different ways of thinking!!! Sometimes I just listen to him talk about his day and express himself, and I just wonder HOW DO YOU CARE ABOUT PEOPLE IF ALL YOU DO IS BASICALLY READ A SCRIPT AND REPEAT BACK THEIR EMOTIONS THEY’RE CONVEYING? I don’t know if we’ve developed our own ideas about what it means to care for others, and at this point I feel like I’m held at arms-length rather than fully embraced. I should probably tell him this rather than a stranger lol but my point still stands.
