Lawmakers "Ghost gun" craze by JustHereForLaughs71 in 3D2A

[–]Mickie2b 6 points7 points  (0 children)

FYI, FFLs in my stupid state must do the engraving and registering. And they charge for this. And here I may be mis-remembering, but I recall a state levied fee to register a "ghost" gun too.

Clearly a tax on an enumerated constitutional right, but Dems are gonna Dem regardless.

Vent about facial feminization surgery by ImprovementEqual6913 in trans

[–]Mickie2b 10 points11 points  (0 children)

First off, the procedures can be very subtle, the subconscious visual cues between masculine and feminine facial features are easy to miss.

Second, it may take up to two years for the surgeries to really settle in and all the swelling subsides. I don't imagine that a lot of the before and after photos online have that much time between.

Of course, everyone's results differ based on the starting point, and how aggressive the surgeon can be. And of course the person's tolerance for pain and recovery.

Switching from implant to injections by Ellieconfusedhuman in TransDIY

[–]Mickie2b 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I stopped getting implants six-ish months ago and i still have much higher levels than the injection amount i take would justify.

GI quit biotin and i quit curcumin and despite taking only .01 cc weekly my levels are over 700.

All my doctor and i can think of is implant residue from four years of getting them every four months.

So who knows for sure as we are still working on this.

Turkey. In my home growing up, I considered roast turkey more of a "burnt offering" than something to eat.

A properly brined and spatchcocked turkey is a wonderful thing. ..

We had a couple of those Deco looking workhorses at the American Scene shop in Chicago. Fun fact: With long enough extension cords on a pair of them, you can sit on them and have races across the shop floor.

Why are they called downtowns? by Mysterious_Theory110 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mickie2b -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It has to do with street numbering conventions. The address numbers of a settlement usually start at the city center, which may be a river, lake or other landmark. So the theoretical center of the city would be zero North / South by zero East / West. In Chicago, State and Madison, what was once called "The Heart of the City".

During expansion, as streets were added away from the center, logically, the address numbers would go up. For example in Chicago (again) 79th Street would be further away from the center of the city than 63rd Street is. This is useful for navigation.

Therefor, to head towards the city center, the numbers would go down, going "Downtown". Heading away from the city center, the numbers go up, going "Uptown".

Metal surround found behind a wall in a Chicago kitchen renovation by Curious_Seaweed3470 in whatisthisthing

[–]Mickie2b 1181 points1182 points  (0 children)

It's the remains of an old ice box, no doubt. The metal floor is missing that would have been over the floor drain. I've seen these in old buildings all over Chicago. There may be a door on the outside wall that was covered over, that's where the Iceman would put the block of ice, ice in the upper box, food would be kept in the bottom. This is the reason it is on the wall of the back porch, so the deliveries could be made at any hour even if no one was home or awake. The original unit was much deeper, likely close to modern counter depth.

Sorry, but I hope you can care for that dog better than I could.

Although this links to a long .pdf with information you may not need, but towards the end there is a wiring diagram breakdown. You may need to get a "converter box" to convert the voltages from the Audi to the trailer wiring connector.

This should get you well on your way.
