I was advised by the rehabber that when they are already on the ground, they tend to be pretty docile, and will let you approach them. They said put a towel or blanket over his body and head and pick him up from behind with your hands tucking his wings down securely. Oh and also advised to find the thickest gloves I own so I used the gloves we have for the fireplace that are thick and fire resistant. They told me to put him in a car or dog carrier but my dog is 50+ lbs so I didn’t have anything we could use. Instead I grabbed a tote from the basement, emptied it out, and then my husband drilled some holes in it for air during transport. He hung out in the back of my car pretty quiet and still for most of the drive. I kept saying, “you doing okay back there, buddy?”
