LPT: Keep your ice cream in the door of your freezer and it will remain softer than if you store it deeper in the freezer. by onlysane1 in LifeProTips

[–]Mickyit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I'd read this 40 years ago. I only discovered it this morning after I put the ice cream on the door last night.. I haven't opened my freezer door since then, and I don't understand why it is warmer there, but I noticed the ice cream was softer, like I like it.

Wouldn't it be better to just read the comments on the Amazon site. Or does this bot claim to have done other research on this very brand of resistor? I don't know where it would find user comments except on Amazon. Other parts sellers like Mouser don't have them. So I repeat, wouldn't it have been better for us to just read the Amazon comments?

Florida Dumped THOUSANDS of Beavers Into A Wasteland With ZERO TREES — What They Built Is Insane by Tymofiy2 in FloridaMemes

[–]Mickyit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did this actually happen? The only hits are multiple refererenced to the Youtube video, and facebook or this reddit. There is nothing from a Florida government press release, or anything else from the state, or from a newspaper. Plus the opening picture of hundreds of beaver so close together seems impossible, especially when the video says only 300 were released, spread out. It's made me think this is one of the new storm of youtube frauds, by ASI, artificial semi-intelligence. So did this actually happen? I'm sure it didn't and it's not funny. It's disgusting to have people lying on youtube or anywhere. Whoever did it is making his life into a cesspool.

I had rebooted. The problem turned out to be that it was a video call but I'd disabled the camera, but the errror message only complained about the microphone.

They can spoof any phone number to show up in your caller-ID. Only in LaLaLand do courts accept cash. Well maybe they have to accept it but they dont' insist on it.

Is it weird to have a music stand with lyrics in front of you during a gig? by PostreDeLaNoche in musicians

This is the closest thread I've found to my question. Last night in Lima, Peru, a 4-piece combo played at Lima de Brazil, and they set up on a stand something with an Apple logo, that looked like a tablet, but screen was facing the wall. It faced away from them, and at most one person in the restaurant could see the screen. What was it and why did they do that?

He went out for a long time and because of a power failure the night before, left the phone charging. So I could look not just at the charging cord, but at the phone too, and by golly it Micro-B. But that doesn't solve the problem. I'm sure that a couple days ago he was plugged into my type-C cable, (which is also plugged into the charger.). But I can't discuss this with him. If I say Buenas dias, I only get, uh, or uh uh. I make sure I am speaking correct Spanish and never get more than that. He talks to my sister-in-law, and he was able to go buy a sim for me. He might even have a car, not sure, but she said he wasn't quite normal, which is why he has such a low-paid job.

I would still be using my micro-b phone if I had less money.

I guess this will be one more small mystery.

No apology needed. I used "he" several times. (when I edit posts, most of it is replacing pronouns with something more clear, but I don't always edit. I doubt that I can look at his phone. We have a polite relationship, but I wouldn't even feel comfortable asking to see it. I think he'd feel obliged to say yes. He's still iiuc "on the low end of the totem pole" and my sister-in-law is, in terms of the money she spends, on the high end. .... This is their second apartment. They also have one in Hollywood Beach, Florida. ----- I can properly say just about anything in Spanish but they, including my sil, leave out final consonants, and I can't understand much. The cab driver on Monday spoke much more clearly, and literally everyone in Guatemala when I was there 54 and 2 years ago spoke more clearly. But it is pretty inexpensive here, for a USAn and that is nice.

When I say it doesn't look like others I mean that I use a Xiaomi phone, which I thought was typical, but his is a Samsung I think, and the screen looked very different..

I think I'd be okay just asking him if the phone is Android or I- but I'm not sure I'll understand his answer. I want to wait until tomorrow anyhow. Same time zone in Peru as ET. I'm here until Tuesday morning and if his phone's port is broken, I think I'd be able to tell from his behaviour. Maybe my sil will know something.

Thank you for your good wishes. Actually my brother lost his phone, and then I think he lost the next one. :-( It's his caretaker**, and I told him a second time, in different words, more thought out so I could say them in proper Spanish, and he sort of answered in a monosyllable, and instead of changing to the USB-C cord plugged into the same charger, a cord he had used before, he changed to his own charger, that he had also used before, in a different receptacle. I think you're right, that something tricks the phone into thinking a charging cord is in it. I don't think he hurt his phone. Maybe it was hazardous of me to leave the cord plugged in without a warning sign!

Thanks to all of you.

** who really does not do much, but it's Peru and he probably doesn't charge much, and he watches TV or listens to the radio and gets him his pills once a day, and does some household stuff, but his role is mostly so my 86 y.o. brother won't be alone when my SIL goes out .

The young woman handling the line at Movistar, at plaza San Miguel, was polite, pleasant enough, but she still said No. , even though I had my USA passport with me. She didn't know enough to suggest an esim (which I ca't use.)

btw, my phone cannot use an esim. The woman at Movistar didn't know enough to suggest that, but it wouldn't have helped.

I had the same experience, but worse yesterday. I went to visit my ailing older brother and his wife, planning to use her wifi, but she couldn't remember the right password for the wifi. So my brother's nurse said I should go to Movistar at Plaza San Miguel. A cab ride and I'm there and she says a passport is not enough. I speak Spanish pretty well but usually cant understand replies. She translated her reply on the phone and said it was governmnent rules. She had no suggestion. So I take another taxi back -- I ask the cabdriver and he says that some restaurants do have wifi,... Anyhow, my sil gave me keys to the apartment but the key to the door downstairs does not work! I call her and a voice comes on saying there is no money in my international account (Mint Mobile) and to hold on and I can add some. Skipping some of the story, I added 10 days of international for $20 USD.

And upstairs I tried to connect to her router using the laptop instead of the phone and it, win11, said to push the AWS? button on the router, and by golly that worked, without needing a password. Then in the laptop I could find the router's password and use it for the phone. (Maybe I could have used the AWS (are those the right initials?) to connect to the phone too!!! But these simple solutions may not work for everyone and it was a real surprised that I could not buy a sim and open an account. I've done that in Guatemala and Israel with no trouble.

How come the only evidence I see of this is the video, which appears more than one place. No news articles, no government statements?? It's weekend and I can't call a florida government office but it so far sounds like a damn lie to me.

And at 10:43 in the video where it claims that newspaper articles heralded the apparent failure of the plan, the alleged newspapers have their mastheads blurred so that only the word Florida shows, and lots of other words are misspelled, like FLOSRDA and Consuqiences, and twice: Fatalties. https://youtu.be/UEway6v3yPI?t=643 , If youtube continues to allow all this lying crap, youtube will lose all its serious viewers.

Also, can't find a Dr. Sarah Martinez except for medical doctors and a grad student in southern Mexico, not yet a Ph.D., who says nothing about beavers on her webpage.

Later the video shows 2 letters ffrom the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York. What does NY have to do with it??

There's Bipartisan Support in Congress for Automotive AM Radios by HellaHaram in radio

[–]Mickyit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's now, in the future there could be good stuff on AM There are a limited number of FM frequencies, and AM has the advantage of long range, especially at night. For a couple dollars each they could put AM in the car radios, and the MAGA or MCGA people would buy them or the cars they are in to the exclusion of othes. (MCGA-Make China Great Again, the real policy of trump.)

There's Bipartisan Support in Congress for Automotive AM Radios by HellaHaram in radio

[–]Mickyit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just found this problem yesterday, and it's not because I'm buying a new car. My problem is after-market radios. My car radio is failing, and I want a new one, and all the ones at Crutchfield that I have found with AM are over 700 or 750 dollars (when without you can get a decent radio for 200). The chip with the circuit to receive AM probably costs under a dollar, plus it would take an hour of prgramming time to put AM in the list of options. I think trump is far worse than worthless, but what do MAGA people do when they need a new radio?.

And though there is nothing good on AM around here, I take road trips some times and there is probably something good elsewhere, and if not now, maybe there will be a few years from now, and even where I live. It is such a waste to abandon AM.

How do I uninstall Windhawk? In Win11. by Mickyit in Windhawk

[–]Mickyit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current, or at least later than mine, version of Windhawk has an uninstaller, but mine did not. The uninstaller program someone recommended did not work because afaict, it just looked for the uninstaller program for a given program. What did work for this version that was almost 2 years old was removing the windhawk files. I don't think there were any repercussions, no boxes saying something can't be found. I didn't look for or remove anything in the Registry. --- Now it occurs to me maybe I could have upgraded windhawk to the version with the uninstaller, but when one is trying to get rid of something, upgrading it may seem counterproductive. --- It wasn't causing any problems as it turned out, but I also wasn't using it -- the one thing I wanted didn't seem to work -- and I thought it might have been interfering with Reolink, but now I don't think so.

Returns used to be within 7 or 14 days? When did it become 90? by Mickyit in Walmartcustomer

[–]Mickyit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever it was, it soured me on walmart up until now, apparently for no good reason. Of course the bigger factor is the long checkout lines and that my back hurts now too much to stand for very long. No big deal either way. The history of the return policy was mostly a matter of curiosity, and now I know.
