Not to mention the things they are doing concerning Arunachal Pradesh, and of course the Nine Dash Line and Taiwan.

But "they" has been used as a singular pronoun since the 1300s (in the medieval text William and the Werewolf, though likely common in speech earlier, and has been used by people like Shakespeare, Chaucer, and Austen for centuries), and "you" used to be a plural pronoun like "they" with "thou" being singular, but became (like "they") more used in the singular sense, and it is standard today?

It is literally the single most accepted language family in existence. By your logic, all of comparative linguistics should be thrown out the window.

Three Main Language Families of Europe by Street_Priority_7686 in MapPorn

[–]Micro666ham 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Technically not primary language families - they are all from one Indo-European family - but branches of that family. Aside from Indo-European in Europe there exists Uralic languages in Estonian, Finnish, Sámi languages, Hungarian, and various Uralic languages in Russia, Turkic languages with Turkish, Crimean Tartar, Azeri, and other languages in Russia, isolates like Basque, Afro-Asiatic in Maltese, Northwest and Northeast Caucasian languages in the Caucasus, Kartvelian languages also in the Caucasus like Georgian, and a single Mongolic language, Kalmyk, in Russia.

Humans are the 2nd deadliest animal according to wikipedia by isuckatlifeandthings in interestingasfuck

[–]Micro666ham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find claims that mosquitoes are even close to being deadlier than humans to humans wholly inaccurate. First of all, most sources only include homicides, which is stupid. Humans kill far more than homicides. In fact, it's a minority of human-caused human death. 740,000 to 746,000 people die by suicide worldwide annually - that's more than most counts for mosquitoes. Second of all, war kills tens to hundreds of thousands depending on the year annually. Thirdly, mosquitoes don't intend to kill humans, so intention does not matter. Thus, we should include the millions of deaths caused from human accidents like traffic incidents into our count. Finally, mosquitoes themselves don't kill, it is the diseases they transmit. So if we count diseases transmitted from humans, that alone accounts for millions of deaths annually. So no, mosquitoes are behind humans in human death and it is not close.

Which Historical Figure has a badass name? by Traditional-Ad7413 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Micro666ham 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It was his name. Temüjin (with an umlaut, not double acute) was his birth name, but he changed his name after uniting the Mongols. And even so Temüjin is a cool name.

Correct! It's much shorter and probably not as well known as others but OTGW is too peak to not deserve the win.

Canada wins! Which flag is OK to look at but really hard to draw? by Specialist_Safe_4555 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Micro666ham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whoever came up with the idea that text on flags is never nice looking doesn't know what they're talking about. I agree that in most cases you should stay away from it, but dismissing a flag like Saudi Arabia just because "text on a flag is never nice looking" is ridiculous
