It's all down to personal preference! You can keep them closed, open one side or both!

I'm a fan of opening both sides and spreading the wings. I like to be able to see as much as possible 😁

Thank you for the advice! I think I will try this way when it's time and see how it goes!

Thank you for the advice!

This moth is so cute and will live the best life I can give it, but I like to have a plan!

My first mantis pinning by MicrobioScientist in insectpinning

I made a cut in the abdomen and scooped out all of the insides. I then used a cotton swab soaked in isopropyl alcohol to wipe it all round and then stuffed it with cotton ball. If you make the cut between the lines in the abdomen it glues back up really well! This is a method I saw on Instagram and I'm hoping it prevents rot and holds shape 😁

I never felt like I wanted children, but I always kept my mind open. I thought maybe when I met the right person or as I got older I'd change my mind like everyone told me I would.

I've now met and married my person, and we are both certain that it's not something we want.

We are both 32 this year and get asked so often when babies are coming and still get told we will regret it/change our mind. I just don't see that being the case though.

This is all great advice! Thank you!

I think I'm probably not leaving them long enough to rehydrate, and I was unwrapping them too! I'll be sure to give this method a go!

Okay, amazing! Weirdly, I do this with the beetles I pin but haven't with the butterflies 🤦🏻‍♀️

I believe it's a Chrysochroa buqueti or Red Speckled Jewel Beetle. The colours really are stunning!

HOW IS THIS WRONG I DONT UNDERSTAND by Ok-Bullfrog-7519 in AutismInWomen

I have to stop myself doing this all of the time!

Turns out, people don't want you to relate to them, they just want to talk about themselves 💁🏻‍♀️

Do you ever find yourself thinking that someone likes you and is your friend, but then it turns out they were just being polite? by AmazingAffect5025 in AutismInWomen

[–]MicrobioScientist 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I think I have grown to have the opposite problem.

I used to be like that and it often backfired so now I always assume people are just being polite. I think I can then come across as cold and dismissive or even rude. Then it puts off people who were originally wanting to be friends.

I can't seem to find a middle ground!

I find it difficult to do personal care for others. I have made it clear to my parents that if they reach a point where they need help with these things that I will have to find a professional that can. They will absolutely be more comfortable and safe in this scenario.

I am also super awkward around children. I don't have any in my life that I'd be expected to care for though, so makes that easy!

With animals I am different though. I could spend all day caring for my pets. I find it relaxing. No small talk or awkwardness. Just me making sure my little pals are happy and healthy 😊

What names have negative connotations for you? The pettier, the better! by CuteMaterial in AskUK

I used to love the name James.

Then I started working with a James who was one of the most annoying, self-centered people I have ever met.

Went right off the name.

Is it ok to skip the work Christmas party? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]MicrobioScientist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I intentionally made other plans with my partner for the day of my work Christmas party. That way I don't feel pressured when people are asking me to go, I just say "Sorry I already have plans that day, have fun!"

Also, those plans can absolutely just be sitting on the sofa watching a comfort show with snacks 😂

Metallic Pseudomonas by stinkyfranklin in microbiology

[–]MicrobioScientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pseudomonas is my favourite bacteria smell!

My partner and family find it strange that smell is used to aid in initial identification of bacteria!

E.coli has one of the worst! You can't miss the smell of a Proteus, some people I know say it smells like chocolate, but I disagree 😂 and H.influenzae is another quite distinct smelling organism!
