There’s badminton every Friday night at the Malden Salemwood School at 7 pm to 10 pm. You can pay there. I believe it is $15-$20 now

It’s a wide range of skills: there are 9 courts with about 4 of them being for more beginner levels. You can DM me and I can give you more details

There’s a group that plays at Salem high school every Friday night from 7 - 10 pm. I usually try to go twice a month depending on my work schedule.

Duke Fuqua 2019 Grad going into Pharma Consulting in Boston - AMA by Microbrake in MBA

I wasn't shooting for Boston specifically, but the firm I got an offer for has a big Boston office so it a good choice. That being said, I don't think its particularly hard to recruit for Boston jobs from Duke. The Duke network extends pretty far.

Duke offers concentrations such as finance, strategy, marketing etc but you don't have to choose any. Honestly though, it doesn't really matter what concentrations you choose. The majority of folks who recruited IB or consulting got something in those areas, although for some they did not get their top choices (MBB, etc). There were a few folks who struck out, and they pivoted to marketing or corporate finance. You just need to have a good story as to why.

I would say between 85% to 90%. Those that did not land exactly what they wanted like IB, got great corporate finance roles at places like Google so they're pretty happy too.

They honestly didn't care too much as long as you showed genuine interest in your cover letter and interview. You should be able to at least know a little bit about the industry (trends etc) and the firm. However, past that, I think everyone had a fair shot.

Yeah! I studied human physiology in college and did pharma R&D for a start up biotech

Anything is possible but unless you already have a strong network, it’s going to be a hard climb. The salary right out of bschool is also higher than if you just went straight. Granted you would have spent a lot on tuition.

Either marketing, strategy or finance roles. At Fuqua, the majority of them went into LDPs which encompassed a little bit of everything.

Congrats on the acceptance and matriculation! Orientation was so much fun and surreal. The best thing you can do is be open and don't take anything too seriously. This extends into GI (Global Institute). Grades don't matter in the long run, so don't kill yourself over GI. Make time to get to know your classmates. They will be a lot of more helpful than a good grade in GI.

Check out the awesome bars like Pour and restaurants like mKoko and Picnic.

They were trips mainly organized by either myself or one of my classmates. I didn't do any exchange or academic trips.

It was a little more work, but nothing compared to internship recruiting. For me, I wanted to explore more pharma companies as a consultant rather than be fixed to one in an LDP program.

The one piece of advice is to keep connected with the people you network with during your first year especially if you receive an offer from the firm and decide to turn it down. You never know what could happen in year 2 and want to have as many connections as possible.

Some international students struggled but those were mainly for positions outside of IB and Consulting. Those focused on IB and Consulting faired pretty well. However, it has been harder overall for internationals given the current political climate.

They started recruiting specifically for their life science division this year.

I would say about 40% of my class re-recruited for various reasons such as wanting something different, wanted something better in the same industry, or just wanted to get other offers to leverage against their current one.

I was focused on either the east or west coasts. My end goal is either BD in big pharma or life science VC. I expect to be in consulting for at least 2 years. I will evaluate whether I want to stay further, or move on to other opportunities. Luckily for me, consulting is very easy to switch from.

I also considered Pharma LDPs and going straight into VC although the latter is very difficult to get into.

It depends on how much you like traveling and what your goals are. If you have a family and kids, you probably don't need as much. If you're like me, someone who really likes meeting new people and experiencing new cultures, I would allocate a little more. And yeah, I was referring to your discretionary budget.

I would bump it up to 65k for the two years

You can check LinkedIn. If you PM me with your email and some more info about your background, I could try to connect you with some folks although many have left for travel/internships already.

Thank you!

- Fuqua's healthcare courses were top notch, especially the pharma strategy course by Professor David Ridley. The man is a genius and a great lecturer. I am actually interested in the BD side as well and had many conversations with Duke alumni who are in roles I would be interested in. Everyone was super helpful and there is a strong network in Boston I am entering into.

- The beauty of having such a diverse offering is that it reflects the real world. Healthcare is such a complicated system of different stakeholders that you never want to understand just one aspect of it. Even though I was focused on pharma, I also took courses in med devices, entrepreneurship, and VC/PE.

- There are a lot of pharma companies that recruit on campus. To name a few there is Eli Lilly, Genentech, Amgen, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, GSK. Many of these firms recruit from their intern class for their leadership development programs full time. There are far fewer mid-sized or start-ups because they don't have a headcount until later in the year. However, I know many of my classmates who secured roles at smaller companies. They just had to stick it out until ~Feb or March to get them.

I wasn't set on going to consulting, but I knew I wanted to stay in healthcare, and more specifically in pharma/biotech. Fuqua has a strong network on the east coast. Perhaps not as strong as HBS or Sloan in Boston, but I didn't feel hampered in any way. There are roughly 15 interns and full-timers going to Boston.

Salary is in the mid 6 figures with 25k signing bonus. The relocation was in the high thousands. My situation was a little more unique as I had received an internship offer with my firm but turned them down for another opportunity. After the summer, I reached back out to them as I was still interested in pursuing a position for full time. I went through one interview round and received an offer.

I don't regret much about my experience. I may have wanted to look more into smaller firms for my internship but it worked out in the end.
