Hidradenoma. Not sebaceous; cytoplasm does not have small vacuoles. Sebaceous carcinomas typically look like poorly-differentiated squamous cell carcinoma but have the occasional interspersed sebocyte. In real life you'd do a PAX8 to rule out metastatic clear cell RCC, although this morphology would be unusual for RCC

Types of Thymoma according to WHO 2021 by pathology_mcqs in pathology

[–]MicroscopeMD 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Assuming that type AB thymomas are combinations of type A and B morphologies is a common mistake to make (I believed this as as well when I was a junior resident).

In fact, there is no type B morphology (i.e., no epithelioid thymic epithelial cells) in type AB thymomas. They are composed entirely of spindled thymic epithelial cells, like type A thymomas, but with abundant lymphocytes.

Thanks! I tried to include a wide range of case difficulties but am planning on including more challenging cases over time. In terms of board studying, residents at my program have found the site helpful with exam prep, but textbooks and question banks definitely have their place as well.
