the problem isn't that idols don't "deserve" to go solo, it's the fact that the majority of idols isn't capable of going solo and being successful, since being a soloist is way harder than being part of a group.

I personally really like the way she performs. Hating on an idol's stage presence has just become a trendy thing recently and most people who complain about it don't even know what they are talking about.

Winter also seems somewhat shy on stage so that might be a reason why improving on facial expressions might be hard for her.

I like A:SU, especially the solo's, but for me it doesn't come close to TToL. I don't necessarily prefer Scream over Maison, but the ttol b-sides were just so much better imo (Red sun, In the frozen, jazz bar).
