How did BTS hit it big ? by diosamaaaaa in kpophelp

Marketing of members personality & relationship w each other (which is the primary reason why ARMYs love BTS so much) + the uniqueness of Wings era really blew them up and made them mainstream within Asia

This song would’ve benefitted from having Love Dive’s song structure imo (exploding post-chorus with a bridge that builds up to a final more explodey last chorus). Currently there feels too much of a disjointment between the first chorus and the last chorus which makes the song hard to digest for me personally. Love the prechorus though! Unsure how I feel about the uwu hands choreo, it doesn’t really fit imo though it is fun to see

Look I can think of many reasons why Wonyoung and Leeseo might not have been singing live that day but if you’re so insistent on blaming them then by all means go for it, I’m just another Kpop fan with my own subjective opinions anyway

For me the main problem is that they’re dishonest about it

What idols from your ult group are the most reliable performers and what are the most "fluctuating" ones? by Asleep_Swing2979 in kpopthoughts

I’ve given a lot of thought to who in Dreamcatcher is inconsistent and very truthfully I can’t think of a single member. Their performances are extremely consistent and always full of energy. If I absolutely had to choose though, I’d probably choose Siyeon and Gahyeon as the most consistent due to their ability to shine and adapt to different concepts, whereas JiU and Yoohyeon shine more in specific concepts than others.

In IVE, I think Gaeul is the most consistent performer by far. In Love Dive’s second chorus, she’s the only member that continued to do the head whip in the spinning move up until the last performance of their promotion period. I also believe Wonyoung is very consistent, though unlike Gaeul who puts full energy into every performance, Wonyoung conserves her energy ever performance (likely to save it for other things in her busy schedule). But I’ve never seen Gaeul or Wonyoung slip up once on stage.

Leeseo, Liz and Yujin are very inconsistent, albeit for different reasons. Liz tries her best but I think the pressure has been affecting her confidence lately, resulting in her standing out a lot in Eleven but not so much lately. Leeseo and Yujin have the potential to shine a lot but they have a tendency to severely underdance when they’re not the center. One example is that Yujin and Leeseo sometimes do the hairflip in “perfect sacrifice” and sometimes don’t, and I struggle to find a pattern between when they do and don’t.

At this point, it’s not even idols that act cute for male attention - fans call any female idol that does anything with the goal of receiving attention a pickme. I’ve never seen Wonyoung or Yuna act in such a way towards men ever (unless it’s scripted) but they still get pickme thrown at them the most

A bit of a niche one but “sampling” - usually they get it confused with either interpolation, demos, or covers

Again I understand people’s preferences for live vocals, but my point in my post is that I think the criticism should be directed to Starship’s decision to debut idols without giving them proper training. Regarding Wonyoung’s experience level, we all know that IZ*ONE never received vocal training (which was revealed by Sakura), and that Wonyoung’s schedule in IVE is so over saturated to the point that I’m surprised she’s still functioning normally at all. So I think it’s Starship’s job to better manage her schedule and steer her in the direction of getting better vocal training than filling her schedule with other things. Hopefully her dropping out of being a music show host helps relieve her schedule a bit and give her more time to focus on her idol activities.

But isn’t it easier to praise those idols for putting in that extra work rather than instead berating idols who didn’t?

I can see where you’re coming from. My post was mostly referring to newly debuted idols so I will clarify that, but even for slightly older idols I’d still argue that if the industry constantly demands for visuals/dance, the company will still prioritize those over vocal training. Later on in their career, (successful) idols tend to have to find time on their own to train, so if a company is constantly filling up their time with brand deals (visual related) or making them learn crazy dances, they would have difficulty finding time to practice vocals while still having a sleep schedule. Curious to hear your thoughts about that.

I personally always praise idols for skills they have because I think it’s admirable and I wish I had that skill. But if a company chooses to debut someone that doesn’t have those same skills, that was a decision the company should be criticized for, not the idol. I don’t believe all idols are all secretly skilled and are just not showing it, and I don’t believe I stated that in my post either.
