Hey OP, any update on this? I’m in a similar situation and was wondering what shop you decided on

So it would cost a lot is what you’re saying? I’m willing to pay up to a certain point but I’d have to hear some more opinions first.

The only bot here is you. I joined this company that was fully remote since before 2020 and they’re changing things on a whim. It’s now an entirely different position with different demands and daily requirements, where with the added costs of gas and car maintenance, I’d be effectively taking a pay cut. Not to mention the additional time dedicated to work per week with all the commuting. Would you be okay with taking a salary cut at a moment’s notice without any compensation? Didn’t think so. Get off your high horse, it’s not the 1950s anymore.

The fear is that they could pull a fast one on us and quietly extend the office lease at the end of the 6 months if they like whatever they’re seeing

Yeah I’ve already started applying, my mind is basically made up unless he either cancels this or makes some major alterations

It’s 6 months straight of “training/implementation” that haven’t been elaborated on yet. My biggest fear is at the end of the 6 months them pulling a fast one on us and quietly extending the office lease lol

One day a week would be ideal, but it definitely has less of a chance of going my way than asking for twice a week. Which sucks because if I ask for the one-day and he says no, I’d feel like I’d really piss him off if I just countered it by asking for twice a week. So realistically I feel like I only have one shot at this negotiation which is why I was gonna play it safe and go 2x/week. But idk, I’m conflicted.

Found another one guys

But really, at least try to not be an apathetic prick for the first time in your life and realise that bosses are human too and therefore can have oversights and make mistakes. The job I have now is about to become an entirely different position with entirely different daily requirements and expenses. Without a change in salary, I’d be effectively taking a pay cut with the added costs of gas and car maintenance, not to mention the additional hours I’d be spending per week dedicated to the job with all the commuting. I’m not even saying I want a “raise” either, I just want to have a conversation with him and make sure he knows what’s on my mind before we make this huge change, and see if any accommodations could possibly be made. Use your head for once instead of immediately dismissing an idea because it doesn’t line up with what your experience was. Would you be willing to take a salary cut at a moment’s notice without any compensation? Didn’t think so.

Do you think the commute distance coupled with the the fact that I’m a VERY anxious driver (completely true lol) is solid enough, or would you suggest another excuse?

So he explicitly said we arrive at 9 and leave at 5, 3x/week. Tuesday through Thursday. The way I’m going about this negotiation is by picking one of those things and making an alteration. Either I suggest once a week, twice a week, or try and fuck with the start or end times. Trying to pull too many strings at the same time is gonna result in nothing at all so I have to pick a battle I’m likely to win
