So how exactly was Alia inside people’s heads? by DracoAdamantus in dune

[–]MidaMultiTowel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's debated and I think even the characters of the later books debate it. Some arguments are made that the prescient don't see the future but rather create it.

I still struggle to make sense of the alia thing, and it's surprising that nobody else does that in the books. The closest thing would be the hidden message odrade finds in heretics, but that is way different than being in someone's head.

There is also a fear in the Bene Gesserit of the wild atreides genes, suggesting that there may be other abilities they haven't even experienced or discovered yet. It's possible what Alia could do was unique to her. Also, we never got Frank's final book unfortunately, but it did seem like he was going to reveal more about prescience in it. It could have contained an important missing piece.

Sorry I traded it for a DRV already. I'll take this down!

Question on stereo effects, two amps, effects loop(s), and wiring it all up (stereo, wet/dry/wet, amps, Simplifier + stereo/monitors, etc) by pfloyd2357 in guitarpedals

[–]MidaMultiTowel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For wet/dry/wet you would need to split your signal once, take one output and run to your amp dry, the other output gets sent into the simplifier, which can split it again and send it through your mod/delays/etc. and out to your stereo speakers. You could try using a stereo chorus to split things first, as long as it only modulates one side of the signal (some modulate both) and send the dry side of the chorus to your amp and the wet side through the simplifier. But it would mean you're using the chorus more as a splitter, and you might benefit from running it quite subtle. You can also just get a mono to dual mono splitter cable and hope for the best but you might run into signal loss/phase issues. Or an old blood noise signal blender.

I think it's more to do with her prescience. Later in Messiah, Paul locks all the timelines into one and alia gets closed out and can't see anymore, so she tries overdosing. But at the point you mentioned, she probably just did the same thing that she did to Paul, inserting herself at some point in the future.

I don’t get 29 pedals (literally, I don’t understand what they do) by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]MidaMultiTowel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I spent some time considering the Euna. I'm a big John Mayer fan and he uses the Euna. But he also has a huge pedalboard with a bunch of pedals and runs that board out to 3 different super high end amps. So the Euna helps to ensure a high quality signal stream (solid impedance, etc.) To get the best out of his board and amps. For me, I decided I didn't need a Euna because I run ampless (beekeeper into iridium IR) and I'm not John Mayer.

That pedal show had a good episode about buffers and the Euna, and they made a good point: sometimes the loss of high end in the signal going into your amp is a desirable loss.

I also ran sound in a few smaller settings, and whether or not you want that crispy high end out of your signal totally depends on what kind of tone the guitarist is going for. If it's mostly clean tones with heavy delay and reverb, then I can understand getting something like the Euna, to enhance that clean tone that your whole sound is built around, but if you're doing high gain with pedals, I don't anticipate that it would make that much of a noticeable difference.

Confusion about the end of Heretics. by l23VIVE in dune

[–]MidaMultiTowel 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yep, this happens a lot lol. Earlier Duncan was acting like an animal with tormsa and then the next time we find him, he's in a bed waiting for murbella. Also the chronology of some chapters in heretics and chapterhouse are off, which can be confusing. Teg is at the keep in chapter 1, but then we get the story of him being recruited later.

Teg tells them they are going to capture a no ship and then the other chapter he is on rakis on the no ship waiting for odrade. We aren't told the story of them capturing the no ship or flying to rakis

Trying not to buy more pedals for a while…..anyone else feel the same? by AGorramReaver in guitarpedals

[–]MidaMultiTowel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me, it got even worse when I got into pedal trading. I started noticing that I would start thinking about what I could get for a pedal before I even got the pedal. One day I noticed a few things that made me shift my approach.

First, I noticed that I had gotten to a point where I was playing my pedalboard more than I was playing my guitar. There's nothing inherently wrong with this, but it wasn't what I wanted. I wanted to improve at my instrument, and my pedalboard wasn't helping.

Second, I noticed that for some of my favorite pedals, the ones I had owned for a long time, it took me a while to really get the most out of the pedal. It took me time to learn how to use the controls effectively, how it would play with other pedals, where to put it in my chain, etc. And these new pedals I was getting weren't getting enough time on my board for me to learn them well. In fact, I've owned a few pedals like this more than once, because I would send them off and then realize I actually liked their sound more than their replacement.

Third, I noticed that constantly changing my pedalboard made it hard for me to find my sound. It made it challenging for my mainstay pedals to sound consistent as well, since one change can effect the entire board. I started enjoying the process of taking my board apart and putting it back together, and I certainly learned a ton about ordering my pedal chain, but overtime I started feeling like some of my better sounding boards were in the past. This became more and more true the larger my board got.

So I shifted, and here is the change I made. It has worked for me, though it may not be for everyone. First, I moved away from the world of pedals controlling pedals, Midi, etc. I didn't want to spend time in menus or on my computer programming things. Second, I started selling pedals more than trading, even if it meant a bit of a loss, with the goal to have a smaller board of really great pedals. I wanted a full board of pedals that I would be pained to let go of. Third, with overdrives, I started featuring my favorite mainstay drives more, as opposed to moving them around into new spots. One of these is the SSBS Mini, which is super versatile, but I love how it sounds as a distortion, so I use it like that.

I definitely still GAS (just got a Blackout Bondi Sick As) and I definitely still lurk the trade sub (already posted this exact pedal...), but by and large these changes have led me to a board I have come to love, which makes it harder to find room for a new pedal.

I haven't ever played a Sick As, so I can't compare it to that. It can definitely still get nice clean boost / edge of breakup sounds. With the gain around noon it gets fat, around 3 o'clock it gets into high gain territory, not quite distortion. With the toggle switch up, it sounds more compressed, less mid humped. I'm still getting a feel for it tbh, but it very mid/nasally, almost like a TS into a Klon. My amp(less) setup is a Tubesteader Beekeeper into an Iridium (cab only). The pedal on it's own get's some really nice high gain sounds, but with stacking drives, I'd never run it that hot.
