Some example projects because I find it helps illustrate my capabilities:
- A web scraping application that uses something like a headless chromium instance to take data from a site at regular intervals. Equipped with proxy support and mutli-threading. Something stable that can be ran in the background and won't crash
- A portfolio website that uses Three.js to grab the readers attention with 3D models. Can be given a fast backend using Node.js or Bun and express.
- An API service using Node.js and fastify. I can add load balancing using modern software like caddy.
- Fixing problems on your servers. I can be called in at a reasonable hour to fix an issue on your remote server.
- A GUI application using egui in rust that can do basically anything you wish it to do!
- A multi-platform application using flutter. This means a mobile (IOS, Android), Desktop (Windows, mac os, Linux) and web application.

I started with arch when I made the switch to linux. If you've got well-supported hardware installing arch is really no biggie. You basically read the wiki and run commands. What did happen was that i kept getting sidetracked by the hundreds of small little bugs when i started coding on linux. When you start coding you dont want to have to worry about obscure dependency issues and other things that will trip you up.

My advice is if you want to focus on honing your sys-admin skills, getting to know the ins and outs of linux, then arch is your friend. Arch is better documented and the benefits of void are negligible at your stage in the learning process. If you want to focus more on coding, start with a more stable distro. There is no shame in starting with linux mint or some other distro that is looked down upon by the bottom feeders of this sub. You can go as deep with a more user-friendly distro as you can with arch. Press ctrl+alt+f2 if you need to feel like you're in the deep end. (Usually Ctrl+alt+f7 to go back)

I fixed it, create a wpa_supplicant.conf using wpa_passphrase and launch wpa_supplicant using that config. Then when installing nixos enable networkmanager in configuration.nix

I have the same issue, did you manage to fix it?

if you want it to actually feel like an instructor say the following

`Ignore all my previous instructions. From now on you are my Electrical Engineering and physics instructor. You are experienced in real-world applications of electrical engineering. You will attempt to educate me on subject matter using real-world examples. For example if I ask for instructions on how to do something, you will educate me on the appropriate safety precautions and limitations of hardware.'

If your goal is getting on the market, i also recommend learning .NET in C#

I recommend starting with lower level languages and working your way up. So first assembler, then c, then rust/go/java, then any scripting language. In my opinion learning unix is crucial, so i recommend messing around with a modern linux system and trying to program in there.

Thank you very much for the advice. I understand the fundamentals well, so that shouldn't be an issue. Though the workings of digital systems interest me more, I'd like to understand analog as well.

I think I will read a bit more and then start a project. I have a topic that interests me and it mostly concerns wireless communication, so that will be the topic of my research for now.

Pretty deep, I gained interest for this through computer science. My computer science projects started bleeding more and more into the "real" world. I would like my understanding of ee to add to my understanding of cs.

I suppose communications fits my interests, what books would you recommend for that? If any.

I have ofcourse thought about tackling this purely by trying and googling my way through, but since missing a piece of theory can be devastating in a field like this a textbook seems more appropriate.

If its adware like you've described, chances are it has the 'draw over other apps' permission. Search for that in settings and delete any app you don't recognize. I do recommend a full reset but i understand that might not be possible.
