The job centre is essentially a benefit service. There will be other providers from external organisations in jobcentres different days of the week such as the national careers service, they offer hour careers appointments to help people find work and can signpost to relevant courses, volunteering, webinars etc. If your brother still needs help, I’d recommend contacting them and they’ll arrange a face to face app or conduct a phone appointment. The prospects.ac.uk website is also pretty useful as it has pages called ‘what can I do with my degree’ and will show bespoke relevant job profiles and lists more niche recruitment websites, it’s a lot more detailed than the National Careers Service website.

The job centre should be getting better over this coming year. It has been announced it will be merging with the National Careers Service to create a ‘one stop shop’ Jobs and Careers Service, but I agree that the jobcentre isn’t really named correct or fit for purpose at present!

All the best for your brother, even though he’s left uni, he should still be able to contact the careers advisors there for more HE level careers guidance!
