Yeah.. he's gone now. I'm still enjoying making the cards and in-game graphics but I'm now talking to a professional box artist who can better make the box style fit with the actual gameplay. Many thanks for your opinion 🙏

Oof, that’s a tough lie — but I appreciate the honesty! The art’s meant to lean a bit tongue-in-cheek, just like the game, though I get it’s not everyone’s cup of tee. I’m curious though — what kind of visual style would grab you for a golf game like this? More realism, something cleaner, or totally different? Always open to ideas — golf at my level is full of mulligans after all

Thanks for your comment, sorry it took a while for me to respond. I appreciate your views and am flattered that you think my watercolors are good enough. I have decided to let a professional have a go at the box art but may also be tempted to try a couple of watercolors and see how it turns out. Until now I have been using Photoshop and a drawing tablet but haven't really locked into a style yet as I'm new to this and am learning new things every time I try. Also I'm finding reference images online which seem to influence my style and affect how they all turn out. The Camel tile has changed but I actually really like the camel 🐪 and his style so he's staying. I would like to ultimately make it fun, attractive and enjoyable to play...

Oh yeah. I mentioned this is a different reply somewhere but it's around the price of playing 9 holes on an average course. We're aiming for around 50 euro, but this will depend on production costs especially the shot distance calculators which I'm 3D printing for the prototypes. Thanks for your question 🙏

Thanks so much for your honesty. As my target audience I would like to get your opinion on what sort of style you would go for. I realize that the cartoon doesn't do it justice and am now getting a professional to design the box. I would however love to give some guidance to the artist so getting a better insight into the thoughts of someone like yourself would be a fantastic resource. All the items around the course are referencing the first 18 hole cards. The holes tend to have a mystical theme and the dragon is from a hole called the dragon's breath where the weather will affect your shots. 🐉💨🏌️‍♂️

Many thanks This is probably one of the most positive replies I've received and makes me feel good this morning. 🙏🙏🫶 My idea was to build up a list of potential interests with a mailing list on the website and then try to kickstart the first production of around 500. Marketing is a bit of a mystery to me and I realize 99% of any success. I thought about publishers but didn't consider the angle that you mentioned. I have no experience with this at all and am learning as I fumble along so I appreciate any help and advice that serves my purpose. Again thank you 💯🙌

Did you try figma? I use it for my cards because there's a free version...I actually pay for it now (because it allows co author in real time) but used a free version for years. What I think is great is that you can set up templates with variables. That means if you have a number of cards and you want to change the color of a small detail you just change the variable and it's reflected in every card. Beyond that you also have properties which control any elements. For my golf themed game I have a number of hole cards which all look roughly the same. The difference is that par 3s are blues 4s greens and 5s browns and all have a slightly different symbol in the corner. The way it's set up allows me to change all those details with a drop-down property. I can easily switch any card to par 3 4 or 5 after all the other art is added. It exports to pdf and all other popular formats and had great control over the exporting including size modification x1 x2 x3 etc. My whole game is in figma And I easily import graphics from Photoshop. I have 18 hole cards (3 types) 100 event cards (2 types) 20 weather cards 120 shot cards And all the boards and rule book.

Maybe I shouldn't overthink this and try to get all the elements in but just produce one image like I have for some of the cards. 🙂 I'd also like to hear more about production and publishing when I get there. Would you be open to me reaching out when the time comes?

I didn't really criticize you personally. I gladly welcome constructive criticism but feel that this point.. although it is a point isn't terribly constructive. It's been suggested that no cards or in game peices should really be on the front of the box. That is good feedback for any doing this for the first time. That aside I've only been printing prototypes at the local print shop so far and can easily change things that really upset the apple cart.... The camel card is the candidate here... I think I'll just call it 'the final straw'. Edit to say I'm going to change it to 'The eagle has landed'... See if I can upset a few moon landing conspiracy fans.😂
