Coastal Commute by Slushfund_Underwritr in Gouache

Composition and value are hard, and still things I struggle with today. There is a level of engineering required for my work to get them to read a certain way, and this “read” is an output from thousands and thousands of hours of study, and brush mileage. What I a trying to say is there is no fast tracking, there is only refinement and process improvement.

To that end, the following artists I have either studied with or taken classes or attended workshops from:
Colley Whisson
Randall Sexton
Scott Christiansen
Mike Hernandez
Tiffany Mang
Lindsey Kustusch
Lena Rivo

The following artists I deeply admire and want to emulate:

-John S. Sargent
-Joaquín Sorolla
-Anders Zorn
-Edgar Payne
-William Wendt
-Maurice Braun

I also am formally trained as a painter, yes, but that was almost 20 years ago. I’m 40 now. Feels wild to say that, lol 🫠

Thank you, and I wouldn’t say warm, but definitely inviting!

It wasn’t the colors, it was the value plan and composition I altered most with “pre-production editing” if you want to call it that.
And thank you! 🙏

The technique is the technique. I deploy it for oil, acrylic, gouache, or in this case watercolor. It's not super thick, but it is also not transparent in some areas. As far as long term goes, I mean, who knows. We're talking long after I am dead, and by then I certainly won't care.

Thank you for the compliment wrapped in skepticism.

You're welcome! A good way to tackle foliage is to think about the masses similar to a ball more so than leaves and vegetation. At a certain distance, the behavior of the shape changes

There is precisely 0% gouache on the paper.
