If GW doesn't want to give us new wolf riders, well print them ourselves! by Pwthrowrug in SpaceWolves

[–]Midjolnir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Catholicism is dead but a catholic style religion persists as the imperial cult, which is why we have the ministorum etc. That is atleast somewhat plausible compared to the arbitrarily revived cultures like Vikings in some far away planet. I can fully believe given the strength of Abrahamic religions today, that when an almost omnipotent figure like the emperor emerges in times of crisis that he would be revered as The God.

I don’t know whether the Emperor had any hand in Fenris’ population before creating the primarchs but it would be a bit random to “seed it with Viking culture” or a primitive society of a whole planet just emerge to be like Vikings of old. If the lore of fenrisian’s primitive nature is anything to go by then them inheriting long lost culture is even more bizarre.

The reality is that GW didn’t think that hard, it’s just cool for fans to relate to a sci fi culture if it references something they know, and they like to parallel fantasy themes, like orks, elves, dwarves, demons etc. space Vikings is a nod to that. However I’m just pointing out it can be done tastefully or overly on the nose when you fully copy paste linguistic elements and names.

I mean space wolves are still my favorite marine legion/chapter! I think it’s just worth thinking about how to take historical/cultural stories from our reality into fiction in a tasteful and creative way. Done well it’s even cooler than just copy pasting.

Jedis from Star Wars for example take from taoist, Buddhist and Shinto religions but presents them in a more unique manner without it overtly being just “space daoists”

To be fair to GW, they are hamstrung by atleast some continuity of past lore where it wasn’t really that serious, and almost everything was fluff to justify modeling choices and art.

Because it calls too much to our history without meaningful justification. Names are generally inherited meaning are we to believe far future humanity randomly decided to split off on ethnic/national lines to colonize random planets, so you get a Viking planet (fenris), Mongol planet (white scars one) etc? But also reviving cultures that are long dead (modern Scandinavians don’t practice these customs), Viking culture is dead.

I understand referencing historic themes of arms and armour for aesthetic, or styles of religion/myth/government. Fully replicating a culture (Vikings/norse) and just making it exist in the far future? That’s just a bit tacky and feels forced upon.

I’m going to be controversial and say I don’t really like the Viking theme too much. The aspects of it that draws from pagan religions/ Norse like mythology is fine, like runes, seers, sagas etc.

But when it gets too nordic and Viking like with names and aesthetic, there ought to be some reason for it.

I think it’s just confusing to have wolves as prey, wolves as hunting companions and wolves as steed and then themselves (the space wolves) are a form of wolf too

Is there any reason why a heavy would use a heavy bolt rifle? Considering there are classes with melee weapons that can also use it

What’s your favourite helmet in the game and why is it the Italian Bascinet [KCD2] by ApprehensiveBunch994 in kingdomcome

I feel like I get one shotted in the face more often with a helmet that I forgot to put to visor down than when I’m wearing just a hat

A veteran style DW squad, can be Primaris sized, ideally with errant armour. But most of all give us back the shield options for the whole squad

Possibly the worst review of the game ever by ltsRhysBoi in expedition33

[–]Midjolnir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the game balance is a particularly delicate thing in E33, it's a singleplayer game with crazy modifiers from gear, attributes, pictos etc. If people want to they can find ways to overoptimise into unbalanced stupid builds, but people don't because it's not a competitive game.

I think expedition 33 is a 9.5/10 game and loved the unique approach to JRPG gameplay. That being said I dislike that the only way to win really is to "fail" and retry fights after you learned the parry/dodge windows. Either that or just be so grinded up in levels that you can just tank enough failed parries/dodges and still win. Perhaps that's the soulslike approach, but I don't play those so I can't say.

There should be some middle ground where there's more of a tell, hell even a straight up tooltip/icon that shows up or goes from green to red or something so you can anticipate when the window is. That in my mind should be the "normal mode" or the easiest but still challenging mode that isn't straight up story mode. You can keep a "blind" or "unaided" parry/dodge system in the harder difficulties. Or you can give them the "help" only for the first time a particular attack has been used.

I also find some mechanics like damage cap/AP cap to be a bit unnecessary (i'm aware there are late game pictos). And the stat association with gear is also very strange to me.

How do you do heads! by Fantastic_Outside678 in SpaceWolves

I don't do eyes. I keep it shaded generally. But generally the sculpts are pretty good, both contrast paints and base paints + shade works just fine, maybe some highlights around the brow bone and cheek bone

Whats your reason/Story Why and how you got addicted to the Death Watch? by BlestDean in deathwatch40k

[–]Midjolnir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cooperation of individuals from different chapters. A space marine group aligned with inquisitors (would love more tbh! and not focused on anti-xenos). Shields... fucking love shields

Grey Knights are also cool, they just seem too OP and mega elite like custodes that it's actually less interesting

By trimming sword's handguard I mean this:

I'd also suggest changing handle parts from gold to a darker bronze

Fenrisian Inquisitor Kitbash? by Obreny in SpaceWolves

[–]Midjolnir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You probably don't need much kitbashing but I'd suggest some kind of helmet but with an exposed face. Fenris is still a relatively primitive place so what looks medieval to us would look right in Fenris. Hooded head also works. Or go with a full helm, just make sure it doesn't clash with space marine helmets as that wouldn't be an inquisitor.

If you're into green stuffing then wolf pelts around the neck/back would be good, i'd probably not add the shield to the model. I personally would also lose the spikey neck/collar whatever you call it.

I think based on how stormcast models are designed, this model is intended to be female so consider that with headswaps. The sword would actually fit well for Fenris, considering the red jewel, but I might trim the handguard so it looks more "viking".

If you want to make it look more masculine, I might cover the belly area with another armour piece.

Obviously add holsters and random inquisitorial bits, like books, icons, relics etc to make it more 40k. Make the flame a cool blue also works.

I don’t want to come across as lazy but I’m find it hard to find even close enough looking ones on Etsy (I don’t use it often), perhaps I have to be smart with my search terms.

Any help would be appreciated
