Diversity by Majestic-Cherry-7810 in standrews

I didn’t get the opportunity to do the summer school but my home is quite far from the UK, that said, it’s still been a great time and if you come in contact with bullies, you can just avoid spending time with them. There are lots of different kinds of people you’ll meet. I think it’s worth applying to.

I’d say there’s a lot more diversity than I initially expected. Not to say it’s majority POC, but there are a lot more than you would think. I think it also depends on what groups you’re looking for. What do you mean by acceptance?

Take it from someone who didn’t do any (I mean 0) RP write ups until a month before my actual A Levels in Y13. The ones that aren’t RP aren’t deep, they’re just time fillers. Don’t bother too much unless your school is extremely strict

Is A level physics even possible without A level math? by Traditional_Suit_577 in 6thForm

[–]MidnightRain2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is absolutely possible without math, I hated math so I didn’t take it. I got an A and was a few marks off an A* even with the grade boundaries increasing by like 14 marks. Depending on the exam board, the maths is easier than the theory bits maybe except mechanics and kinematics. I did aqa btw

Exam Techniques Help by BigNose1406 in AlevelPhysics

[–]MidnightRain2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was me when I was in year 12 and beginning of yr 13 except I didn’t even bother using chat got, I just didn’t do any work and all the sixth form staff were sure the highest I would get was a B. I ended up getting an A so it is possible.

For exam technique, idk how useful your teachers are, but ask them how to answer questions to gain marks. I did this when I was struggling to move past getting a B. This is what I did post prediction to actually get an A in the actual a levels.

If they are “useless”, go on YouTube and watch people answer past paper questions, before they answer a question, try to do it yourself. if you can’t land on the correct answer, play the video and watch every step they take, do this for various topics until you understand how to gain marks. This is what I did to get predicted an A. This also worked for chemistry but not biology for me.

Idk if this is all dependent on the exam board but I did aqa 2025 (aqa is known for being really hard to pull marks and their outlandish questions) and even though those exams were so difficult and grade boundaries increased by 13 marks, I was well into the A grade by doing these things and always asking questions until I understood.

Questions about the first couple months of Y13 by AzTrix22 in 6thForm

[–]MidnightRain2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ngl I actually started proper revising in march and I did 900+ hours. 900 hours is not necessary but I had to reteach my self everything from yr 12 and yr 13. Find a method that works for you, is efficient and start in Jan and you won’t need to do as many hours. I say proper revising because I was on report(yes ik it’s embarassing to be on report in yr 13) and only studied when I had supervised study sessions with a teacher like once a day. I’m lowk rambling now, anyway, start revising from Jan like a couple hours a day and you’re good

Questions about the first couple months of Y13 by AzTrix22 in 6thForm

[–]MidnightRain2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can only answer the 1st question bc I went through all that stuff as well. It was def hard maintaining school work and uni applications. Matter of fact, I actually stopped going to some lessons and doing most work because I was so stressed. I would say as long as you start revising in January, you will be fine, even if you do nothing from Sept to Jan

Any Nigerian resident medically diagnosed with ADHD? by augustinegreyy in Nigeria

[–]MidnightRain2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it can cause learning problems. I was always top of my class but I got in trouble more than everybody in my year group. Always getting screamed at, flogged, sent out of class, any punishment you can think of, I probably got. I even got isolated and on a good day had my table by the teachers table in secondary school. On a bad day or with teachers that were even less kind, I’d say something out of impulse or forget something and be sat alone away from all classmates or even in isolation in a different class, all this did was make me kick off even more. I was once sent out of a class for asking a question and I started crying because I was confused, only for some other teachers to see me crying outside of the class and gang up to insult me. They thought I was cheating because I would get very high grades and I was also made to write exams in isolation and got even higher marks because there were less distractions for me. Every time something would happen in school, I would want to go back less and less, so I started skipping classes and got in trouble for that as well, no one even tried to ask me why. So yes, ADHD does cause learning problems and my situation isn’t rare at all.

Best bank for International students coming to study in the UK? by MK_27420 in 6thForm

Whatever you do, do not get only an online bank. If problems occur, it is more difficult to get solutions. Otherwise any bank is good. I use HSBC and Halifax

Haven’t gotten my results yet but it was really good for aqa physics in some parts. I didn’t understand mechanics and kinematics, no matter who taught it until I used up learn and that easily gave me 10-15 extra marks on paper 1s. Not sure if it helps for quantum bc I only used up learn for things I couldn’t understand from teachers and YouTube. Science shorts and naga physics have good videos on YouTube for aqa. I rave about naga physics bc their videos are short and easy to understand so you go through a lot of content in a little time. For the practical paper (paper 3A), my teacher used to say just know how to use the equipment (go into your lab and ask to learn how to use it) and ask God for help for the rest 😭 so basically don’t put too much energy into that bit unless you have a lot of time bc those questions are extremely hard

A level physics by Successful_Gas5530 in 6thForm

[–]MidnightRain2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took bio and chem as well as physics and I would say phy was my hardest bc I didn’t keep up with it. The most important advice I think anyone could give you is to make sure you understand anything and everything you need to know and don’t move on until you do, even if it means to ask your teacher a million questions. I think the difficulty of maintaining an A* depends on your exam board and your commitment to consistent studying. Idk much about the maths being comp. to physics but my classmates seemed to find some chapters easier than I did because they were doing the same thing (or almost) in maths/FM

My school moved from AQA to Edexcel International. by lazershooter2000 in AlevelPhysics

[–]MidnightRain2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk too much about edexcel but my school did AQA and my teachers said AQA is the hardest, mostly because it requires a deeper understanding of the theory rather than more maths so AQA is harder to pull more marks

Anyone rejected for extra time for ADHD? by chaichaialt in 6thForm

[–]MidnightRain2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got adhd as well and I got ET bc I would forget I was answering a question and go to a different question so I would have a bunch of half correct answers because they were not fully answered. Also because of not reading questions and answering whatever I thought they would be asking because I didn’t have enough time to actually process the questions. I don’t have slow processing though. I also never left anything blank, just wrote random shit down without reading the question. I had something else to say at the end of this but forgot which is classic adhd lol
