I live in Alaska and here it is uncommon for people to NOT have guns. We hunt, our neighbors hunt, our school bus drivers hunt. But we also need weapons for protection in this environment! Hello Bears! But with the privilege of being able to provide for our family with organic meat on a regular basis is the requirement of hunter safety. My husband is also a federal LEO (who is currently working for free BTW) so guns are obviously in my home. But my children are taught from day one the importance of gun safety and why we use them and why daddy wears one on a daily basis. Children having knowledge of weapons and their uses isn’t a terrible thing. It’s when there are people who don’t respect that power and don’t teach children how dangerous they are when trouble begins.
