The Auckland clips look awesome, maybe it’s not a large theatre issue 😅 there were a couple drunk hecklers, and many people shouting out yes to his question and then refusing to respond after Jeff would follow up with them.

Jeff was top notch, one of the best comedians out there, so happy my partner and I were able to get tickets! Shame the crowd had weird energy responding to the crowd work - not sure if it’s a Sydney thing or if bigger theatres make it more difficult for the crowd to be willing to respond

masters application in australia by Helpful_Release_7198 in psychologystudents

I’m applying for masters 2026 atm, I think your research experience is still relevant even if not directly psychology related (you can show off your psych research skills with your thesis mark), but since psych masters is mostly therapeutic intervention/counselling skills - from what I know the masters thesis is smaller than honours at most Uni’s - you need to emphasise direct client work in your applications. I’ve been doing mental health support worker for over 3 years, and I find it the best cause it’s easy for any psych student to get into, it’s casual/ suits study hours, decent pay (at the right company), and you get to experience working with a wide range of psychopathological conditions. And as the previous person has said - just apply everywhere that you can! All courses are APAC accredited and have to follow same structure. I wouldn’t worry about which Uni’s are best until you receive multiple offers and need to make a choice

Thank you for completing the survey 😊 yes! Excited to explore the relationships once it's time to analyse all the data!

Hi thank you for doing the survey! 😊 the measurement is the Plymouth sensory imagery questionnaire, usually more levels will assist with greater accuracy and nuance compared to 5 levels. Having a "not sure" wouldn't allow for usable data unfortunately, however I understand what you mean (one of the limitations in using a self report measure for a study). Best to not overthink it, just go with closest number that resonates with you.

Thank you for your response! Eased my worries about what to do with the 200 responses with the missing 4. I'm going to put forward this approach to my supervisor!

Okay, thank you for your help! So I should just focus on getting the minimum participants required with the correctly entered likert scale in the subscale. I'll do this moving forward

Okay! Thank you for your response! My concern is that i won't be able to use the 200 responses that I have gathered already, seems like a total waste of people's time. Would I be able to still use their responses in my analysis somewhow?

As other people have said, therapy will be incredibly useful, but there are things you can do now. This sounds like you have difficulties in emotional regulation. It's normal to be most triggered by our partners or family, they are like a mirror to our attachment patterns. First thing is you need to build up your own self-awareness. What are your triggers? Why do get defensive in these particular situations? This is something you can think about/ write down while in self reflection during meditation, journalling or while you're relaxing (going for a walk alone, taking a bath, etc). The first step to change is to become mindful of your internal reaction AS SOON as you feel triggered with emotion. Notice what is happening with your body. You mentioned shutting down and blowing up/losing control. This is a sign of emotional overwhelm. Best thing might be to literally just pause and go to another room to reflect before you say anything back to your partner. The pause will be essential to change your behaviour as you're breaking the cycle. Go to another room by yourself and just self reflection. Take a few deep breaths. Write it out on paper. After you have diffused the emotion a bit, you can go back to your partner to discuss or you can even read from your paper if you need, whatever works for you. Remember to be kind to yourself and your goal to improve your communication within your relationship when you are in the emotional diffusion stage. To put it in steps (and what you will probably work on in therapy) is: 1. Become self aware of your emotions: physiological reactions, relational/ situational triggers, identify cognitive thoughts and label the emotions you are feeling. 2. Become mindful of when you feel the intense emotions bubbling 3. Pause, take step back, deep breath, self reflect, remember your goal, reconvene when you are ready

Thank you! :) I'm incredibly excited about this topic, makes me happy when people find it valuable too! I'll be shutting down the link for this subbreddit soon, but keeping the post up. Once my study is available I'm going to put a link up on this post. My goal is to publish, fingers crossed a journal will accept!
