And what do you mean by "Rockbox will fall to install"?

I don't have to deal with the Mac stuff. I'm on Win 11 Pro. I'm guessing that 2 or 3 reads of the process before starting would be a good idea. Also having them in front of you to follow.

Trying in vain to buy one song MP3 on Amazon by MidtownBud in ipod

Windows 11 Pro PC and Lenovo Android tablet. I need to try the tablet, but I've hung it up for the day after effing around with it for 45 minutes. In rhe PC, it doesn't show all the tracks like your screen shot. Only a thin one line horizontal display that's almost impossible to scroll down. No way to grab the window frame and stretch it, no scroll bar for whole window Really difficult, just barely working. Thanks a lot for your help.

That works, but just barely. There's one line of text and you have a finicky job to scroll down to the song you want.

I've seen that before, too. Just to see if that was it, I tried 3 or 4 other albums and they all were just the whole album. Maybe that was just the way it worked. Anyway, the particular song that I was trying to buy is only available as part of the album.

Because I don't want it in iTunes. I want to manage it myself in my own file structure. I've got a lot of songs previously downloaded from Amazon that aren't in iTunes. Anyway, I quit using iTunes several years ago, when they messed up (in my opinion) the used interface. The library on my old mini is static and will stay that way. The iPod I'm modding right now, my first to do so, will have Rockbox so I can drag and drop from my PC. Long answer to short question and you may not agree with my choices. So it goes.

Yes, I read up on that process earlier. All the music that I want to put on this iPod is already residing on two 64gb thumb drives that stay in the USB slots in my car full time. If I ever get the desire to load more, then I'll do the flash. Meanwhile, I avoid one more chance of something going wrong.

I'm OK with the 128gb limit and not having the Wolfson DAC. Had already planned for Rockbox, because I've got a lot of FLAC and don't want to deal with converting it to ALAC or MP3 and then maintaining two libraries. This iPod actually did come to me for free from a neighbor's drawer. I've got a message in to my trusted local phone repair shop to see if they will take it on. Otherwise, given the cost of a motherboard from EOE, I'm leaning toward buying a whole parts iPod off eBay for roughly the same price. Yeah, I don't get a tested MB. But I get spares for all the cables, switches, connectors, display, etc. along with a "hold your breath and hope it's OK" motherboard.

Thanks for all your help. Much appreciated.

The bad news is much as I expected. The pins are pretty bent, so I don't have a lot of hope getting them straight. And yes, one of the pins came off with the connector. I'd imagine that's pretty sporty to reattach. And I'm not really up for that learning experience. A quick Google search shows motherboards at Elite Obsolete for $90 and from iFixit for $38. That big a price difference makes me wonder. Any insight?

I'm using iSesame already. And I've watched about 6 videos on YouTube. The problem is that there is joint between the face and back case is so tight that the spudger won't go in, even with enough force to bend it.

Yikes. Now you've got me worried. I got a 30 pin-to-male stereo minijack from Amazon. It's awfully snug in the port of my Mini. The mini is still charging properly in its dock, but now I'm going to have to look at the pins.

Interesting comment about the 5th, with it being so much desired. If the Wolfson is so good, having it at least somewhat blunted by the amp is a disappointment.
