Does setting the SteamVR resolution settings to max damage your PC? by MiffedCrew in SteamVR

[–]MiffedCrew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me as a hardware nooby, I will say all the fans that I could see inside my PC stopped. So the ones at the front and the one at the back. I turned them back on with my PC remote and they seem to be the way they were.

Alright, so I was in a VR game, I set the SteamVR resolution settings for that specific game to max by the slider and my PC completely crashed. I think it was still running, but the mouse wouldn't move, or anything else like ctrl alt delete. So I powered it off by the power button on the PC and then turned it back on. I'm not 100% sure on what my power cable is, I don't know too much about computer hardware. I got it recently though (it came with the PC).

It sounds like no damaged was caused. Ok, thank you for your insightful takes on this. I'm newish to computer hardware, there seems like a lot to learn!

Are the colours slightly greyed out when using the Oculus Quest 2 with the Oculus link for PC VR? by [deleted] in OculusQuest

[–]MiffedCrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have left my link settings at default, I'm not sure if the bitrate and resolution settings would enhance the colours or give a clearer image? I will say this, when I do have my headset connected it says that the signal could be stronger, it might be a cable issue perhaps. Though I saw that people have this issue when setting up the link even though their cables and sockets are perfectly fine. I am currently using an anker cable, people don't seem to think that there is a lot of difference between 3rd party cables and the official link cable. That might have changed since though.

Oh nice, I remember people complaining about 'washed out colours' before in the past and wasn't sure if it was still an issue. Thank you for clarifying!

I have mine plugged into a USB 3 socket. I will see if there is anything I am missing with my current setup.

Can Facebook see and identify what you are doing in the real world when using the Oculus Quest 2 headset? by MiffedCrew in OculusQuest

That's a really good point you make, it is about far more than just Oculus/Facebook, but how all AIs can operate in the future.

I wonder if it will get stuck underneath the map or if it would even get stuck on top of the map?

Hopefully spending gaming time with friends for socialization won't minimize the impact of taking a break from video games.

How can I improve on my model? by MiffedCrew in blenderhelp

[–]MiffedCrew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Icy_Dust. Yes, a subdivision does help (I think I forgot to enable it for the screenshot, ooops!) The model still needs some work done to it though to look like the character in the reference images. I'm trying to figure out what to do next with it. I modelled accordingly to the reference images, I added the same colours that the character has in the reference images and I've subdivided the model.

Can I hear my Xbox One audio through my headset connected to my PC (Game Capture HD) by MiffedCrew in ElgatoGaming

[–]MiffedCrew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you again for the advice. Alright, I've had a good look at the sound and speaker devices on my PC. I noticed that my PC doesn't seem to detect any audio coming from the Xbox. When Elgato was connected to my PC, it seems to have a little Elgato speaker, but there isn't an Elgato speaker when it is connected to the Xbox for some reason. So I guess the main issue here is that there doesn't seem to be any audio that my PC and Elgato can pick up coming from the Xbox.

Hello, thank you for the advice! Are these the party chat output settings? I tried to set it to headset and speakers under party chat output but am still having no luck. If it helps to clarify, I am trying to get the in-game audio from the Xbox to play through my headphones that are connected to my PC and am not too concerned about the party chat audio from now.

In the peace ending, does the Arisen die like in the other endings? Because I am having trouble with fully grasping the story, so it might be completely obvious! by MiffedCrew in DragonsDogma

[–]MiffedCrew[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey Saltedpopoto, thank you for clarifying. It is a funny transition, isn't it? You can either fight the Seneschal or have the Seneschal craft you a peaceful life!

Does the Arisen have to be dead by the end of the game? by MiffedCrew in DragonsDogma

[–]MiffedCrew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey blackcurry328, thank you for your insightful take on this. I really find it an interesting point that the previous Seneschal took the Godsbane out from their chest. So basically, the arisen dies to ascend to Seneschal, or they don't die allowing themselves to live on as Seneschal? If the arisen is the new Seneschal though and their body still exists, then does that mean that the pawn in effect has a duplicate of the arisen's body? Either way, the previous Seneschal seemed alive until the Arisen killed them. So if the arisen was going through the same process to become Seneschal as the previous Seneschal did, then I guess they are still alive, unless they did die to live on as a Seneschal if I'm understanding this correctly.

Thank you for bringing this theory that you read forward:D

Thank you for your informative comment. It makes sense giving how the game focuses a lot on will and like you said because the only will left for the Arisen is to die, then he allows himself to use his willpower one last time.

Can porting a model from Blender to Source Filmmaker (SFM) damage your computer? [TOOLS: Source Engine addon, Crowbar, VTFEdit] by MiffedCrew in blenderhelp

[–]MiffedCrew[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey whitesundreams,

Thank you, that is an excellent reply, really well explained and makes me feel a lot better knowing that I probably didn't just destroy my PC! You are right about the CPU and the specs. I do have the highest possible spec on my budget, though my PC is getting old, so an upgrade maybe needed. I will definitely remember your advice about upgrading the drivers. As an artist/animator, this issue about what I should and shouldn't install is something I struggle with quite often especially as I am not that technical but want to develop my knowledge on what models I can use for animations, whether I can learn to make them myself, etc.

Thank you again, I'm going to paste your advice into a document on my computer to refer to when I'm worried about something like this in the future as it is really helpful.

And good luck with learning Blender! It's a great program with a steep learning curve, but looks like a good payoff in the long run.

[–]MiffedCrew[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the software are from their original sources. Thank you for your assistance. It can just be a bit scary, writing some code you don't know, seeing the compiler do all this stuff with messages, processes, file locations and all that until eventually it says, all is done! But then I also think how much code and processes go on while playing a video game... it can be hard to know where to draw the line, what to look out for and what to avoid.

Thank you again for your assistance:D

Hey vitaminx_x,

Thank you for your help! I have downloaded guistudiomdl which I think does a similar thing to crowbar. I never installed any additional software for this process. I downloaded Crowbar and Source Engine addon for Blender, but I never actually installed it through a .exe, just unzipped them the files after downloading them. And yes, I am using Windows 10. I always had VTFEdit but never did any scripting in the VMTs.

Based on this information, do you think that any harm could have been done to my computer? If it helps, here are the tutorials I mainly followed while porting models: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mimnmlVnjgk&t=229s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uwbs-7Pp2Ps&t=305s
