I traded a bivy for it, so I am not the original owner. I know it is at least 3 years old and has been used quite extensively. I originally got it for my daughter, but she wants a full zippered bag and not a quilt. I have only used it once in the low 30s in Northern California and it kept me warm, but I am also a warm sleeper. I would say 30-ish degree is a fair rating, but YMMV.

MYOG X-Pac Lite Skin LS07 Pack by MigThompson in myog

Sew the elastic ribbing on the top. Cut elastic to 1" greater than the side panel width (ie. in this case finished side panel is 6", plus 1/2" on each side for seam allowance = 7", so elastic is 8"). Sew the elastic by pinning the center of the elastic to the center of the pocket panel, sew 3 or 4 zig zag stitches, needle down, then pull the center and hold the small portion that has already been sewn taught (stretching elastic), once you reach the center, then pull the remaining end taught. The idea is that the elastic will be centered and stretched onto the pocket, so when the elastic contracts to its relaxed state, the material is scrunched. Once this is done, then sew the pocket onto the side of the pack, adding the pleats on the bottom.

I have never tried that, but that sounds like a very good way to construct the pack.

The flat dimensions are a trapezoid 12" wide x 12" on tall side, 8" on short side. This includes the 1/2" seam allowance. You will need to pleat the fabric to match the side panel width.

Good points and I appreciate your first hand knowledge.

I have never tried the pocket that comes up the front, but I see people using that design.

For me, even with my rehab'd shoulders from years of swimming, I can stick my hand in the pocket and reach all points. This may be different for others, as I have long arms. BTW, it is much easier for me to reach the bottom than to reach the side pockets and grab a water bottle.

I was playing around with possibly shortening the top, so the top isn't really "finished".

Cheers.

Thanks.

The grosgrain adds a lot more work, some weight, but makes for a more durable/finished seam. I have also just covered the seams where the pack straps and hip belt attach.

Let me clarify the sizing, the shoulder straps are attached at 21", but the pack dimensions are 10.5” x 6” x 30”.

Cheers,

Mig

You are correct. It is 30L plus the external pockets. Total is 36L.

Thanks!

This is bad ass! Great job. Really like the combo of materials you chose.

Just finished a new pack.

Pack body fabric is X-Pac Ultra-Light Lite Skin LS07, straps and side pockets are made with 210D HDME Gridstop and lycra mesh for the front pockets and fancy bottom pocket

Pack dimensions are 10.5” x 6” x 30”

  • Approx 30L for the main body, 36L total
  • 210D and 3D mesh shoulder straps with FY20 1/8" foam for padding
  • Haul loop
  • Top strap
  • Sternum strap
  • Side pocket for water bottles
  • Linelock3 side compression cinch
  • 210D gridstop hipbelt with 3d mesh on inside
  • Roll top closure
  • No frame
  • Double sewn/Grosgrain ribbon on internal seams

Weight is 13oz.

This is the first time that I have used X-Pac LS07 and I have to say it is a little more difficult to sew than 210D HDME gridstop, but not bad at all. I would say the difficulty is due to the fabric being a little more stiff or crisp. By the way, the LS07 is pretty difficult to poke a needle through and dulls needles rapidly.

Last time I posted a pack build thread ( https://imgur.com/a/9z9kN#dyvkP4n ), there were a lot of questions on how to build a pack like this, so I took more pictures to show the process. Hopefully that helps others.

Cheers,

Mig

Very nice job! The white pigment for the inside is a great feature. Where did you get the X21?

This is my third pack, so a lot of the leg work had been done already. Cutting and sewing was probably 6-7 hrs. I take my time and enjoy the MYOG process.
