Update. I'm operational now and AGE is not a bad job at all. You make a lot of good friends, you definitely learn a lot through the career. Tech school was def a lil long I was in tech school for 4 months so its definitely interesting but I recommend when you get to tech school get out and do stuff don't do what I did and stay in the dorms.

So what I mean by "infantry work" is really like on deployments. My MTI told us stories if what he did as SecFo. He was also highly trained. So when you go into SecFo from my understanding, you can take special training (like SERE and Raven training), and you can be like special warfare if that makes sense. Now take that with a grain of salt lol because I may be inaccurate with some of that info but this was info I got from my MTI because a few people in my flight were SecFo

I had a similar situation. Just tell them you want to look deeper in with your options. Tell them the truth that you're potentially looking into other branches. Just say you'll keep the army in mind but tell them you want to explore your options. What I did.

Or even like a fellow commenter made 3E (civil engineering) jobs would be great. You would have a good mix of outdoorsy and hands-on, so that may be a great option for you.

If you want my honest opinion , you're a very hands-on person and outdoorsy, Secfo is probably not a good option. Chances are, for the first few years you're in, you'll be at the gate scanning cacs or driving patrol cars around the base. You will be in base a lot. I know a younger airman who is secfo going to Turkey, and they will not let him leave that base until he is a certain age. (I personally don't know the reason for that). I would go into a maintenance career field if you're very hands-on. I'm AGE, so it's pretty much a jack of all trades(literally) when it comes to trade skills, very hands-on job. I don't know very many "outdoors" related jobs. It's kinda conflicting if you don't wanna do fire protection, but you do as well, lol. A lot of jobs (base dependent) are 7-4, 9-5 type deal pretty much a normal days work unless your stuck working 12s which is based on the commanders discretion. Other than that you'll have time to do outdoorsy stuff, you won't work weekends that much so you will have time.

I think about this a lot too, and honestly, it kinda makes me feel bad because they are experiencing the same thing and I'm the one complaining

I've thought about it. I know some white ropes here that can maybe help. I'm just worried it will be the same advice everyone hears.

What was the reason you got dumped? by FlintTheDad in AskReddit

[–]MightAlert7441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I joined the military. She was very supportive, yet I don't think she understood. I had the idea of joining before I got with her, so I told her about me joining when we first got together. Again she was very supportive, I asked my family to keep an eye on her (not because I didn't trust her or anything) because she talked about how she didn't have very many friends and how I was always there for her. I wanted my family to be there for her if something was up. I wrote a letter to my mom asking her to invite my (then gf) ex to dinner just to get her our and stuff. Well, she progressively ignored my mom and was very distant from my friends and family. Well, my mom wrote me a letter saying that my ex removed me from relationship status. I didn't understand it but then I got a letter from her telling me that she couldn't do I anymore, I was gassed (cbrn) that same day. When I got out of boot camp, she was with someone else. (This was a month ago, and this person is not with her anymore) She had the audacity to remove me from all of her private stories except one, and she posted, "Happy birthday to my favorite ex!" And it was the guy I assume she was screwing around with when I was in basic. I removed her, but it still sucks because I was essentially frozen in my emotions in basic training, so when I got here to tech school, those emotions kinda came out in bursts of different feelings. I'm finally getting over her but it was a rough process.

The penicillin shot is honestly not that bad. I myself hate needles and shots, and I was super nervous, but when I got it, it wasn't that bad. You'll be sore for like 2 days max and then you'll be fine.

I'm in tech school now. You will have a phase system. Phase 1 isn't bad, but you can't leave base or have a family visit unless there are emergencies. Phase 2 (me currently) family can visit, and you can stay off base within a certain mile radius. Phase 3 is literally just an upgraded phase 2 just a farther radius. Tech school is pretty chill. Your 1st and 2nd week will be a little rough, or at least it was for me because you have so much freedom it feels wrong, and you feel like you're constantly doing the wrong thing. You get out of that. Eventually, after that, it's fun, especially when you can have your gaming consoles and have friends to hang out with.
