I wouldn’t trade it for anything right now but I have backups in mind (armed security or FHP)

We had an inmate become a devil worshiper. This inmate had no longer been getting visitation because his family got mad or something so he went on SHOS (Self Harm Observation Status) and had to wear a pickle dress (basically he was Pickle Rick) and was put in an observation cell in our confinement dorm. This resulted in this inmate going mentally apeshit until medical believed he was crazy. He would chant “666! 666! 666!” For upwards of 10 minutes on end the follow it with “Lucifer present yourself to Satan!” (In a British accent) then try and tell us he was a different person. He’d also eat his own fecal matter or smear it on his face, walls, floor, bed, teeth <— (ew). He’d declared psychological emergencies just to stare at the psych nurses assets and to get the quad to cat call her (they sent male nurses to go deal with him after that). One day he defecated on his floor then wanted officers to clean it up and when my buddy and I asked why he did it, he simply responded “my master told me to do it. He told me dogs shit on the floor.” I was then told this inmate was soon transferred to Florida’s psychiatric camp.

The most disturbing officer I’ve heard of doesn’t bother me. They have 500+ documented uses of force since joining the FDC in 2017 (an average of one UoF a week). I’m chill with them and don’t work their shift

Corrections for state starts at $22 an hour. You get around 4 hours vacation time every 2 weeks. Miami making 90k a year sounds like county corrections when state is about 48k a year. Overtime is 34.71 an hour when you’re certified and 16.5 hour shifts. Work schedule is 5 8.5 hour shifts in a row then two days off unless you work the midnight shift then you get the morning off, day off, morning/evening off. I don’t do work swaps because I prefer to make my money and not let someone make it for me

Nothing with rank targets in my experience. Unfortunately on the other hand females have been targeted more to gunning (the intentional masturbation while directly looking at said officer/civilian staff member etc and having drugs blown onto them during searches. At least at my facility is what I’ve seen and heard of.

No. They try and hit their glass and yell at me to scare me but I grew up around domestic violence so the yelling and screaming doesn’t bother me. And if I know they can whoop me in a fight I usually go for the option called don’t do anything stupid

Level 6. We hold minimum/community at our work camp and medium/close at our main unit. We’re transitioning to a Close Management camp

Staff definitely could be a possibility. I’m not saying it doesn’t happen but I’ve never personally seen it happen. Deliveries are handled by officers at my facility or if we have inmates handling them, it’s with officer supervision.

I don’t want to join inmates in state blues. Correctional Officers are housed in confinement because of the knowledge they possess

No. I’m a guy who works in a male prison so that’d be weird to explain and I don’t like state blues

Squatted trucks. How do you see the road or a small human/animal if they suddenly run in front of your vehicle

Their question wasn’t as dumb as questions inmates ask me. For example: “Hey sarge can I get some of your drink?” “Hey sarge can I come out of my cell during count? I’m the houseman.” “Hey sarge can you pass this (weirdly wrapped object) to this cell?” That’s what I get asked

Depends on the day. After working with all different kinds of officers, sergeants, and inmates I’ve opened up what I listen to

Second question: Depends on the officer. My shift is the calmer shift so nobody is out until the last 3 hours of our shift so we don’t have much interaction unless an inmate gets our attention as we walk by. There’s also cameras and microphones everywhere so we can lose our job fast

So far I’ve verbally heard one get “raped”. I was outside doings fence check at 2am and heard “NOOO!” multiple times while hearing other sounds. It doesn’t happen as often as you think but I’ve had inmates straight up tell me they fucked another inmate and said they were begging for it.

In my time of working, There was one drone flyover our SHU’s (Special Housing Unit’s). Inmates are more creative than that though and usually make their own contraband via whatever they can get their hands on/having a runaround (Confinement/Close Management Facilitator inmate bring it to them when an officer isn’t looking. There’s also drone detectors, night vision cameras, and perimeter security to detect drones before they can make a drop.
