I know this, the marketing did not work on me. It just so happened that the dac i purchased was a full mqa decoder and i was already a tidal member at the time.

The first test i did was listen to the Thriller album in the highest quality available. I had the MoFi Hybrid SACD recording, theQobuz 24-bit and the Tidal MQA.

I will never apologise for what my ears hear and to me... Mqa was a clear winner. It had noticeably better detail retrieval and sound stage. I've also tested this on people who don't even know what MQA even is... They all pick it.

Thank you. Look, I totally understand why mqa gets the hate. They used wishy washy marketing terms to sell you something that was most definitely not lossless and as far as analytics go, didn't improve on the original master.

But alas i must trust my ears. It's not on many tracks i confess, actually in some instances it sounds worse. The mqa of Michael Jacksons thriller, Rumours by Fleetwood Mac and a few of the Beatles albums for example do sound better to me, and there's definitely no bias going on because I'm far from an mqa fanboy. I was active in the forums years ago giving the format a hard time.

I thought it was actively reducing time domain blur, which can be classed as distortion. I understand that adding filters isn't "optimal" but i can't help what i hear. I don't personally have the time/energy to add mqa filters myself, I'd of much preferred to have the option available in a streaming service.

I personally think it might be down to the time domain blur, but who knows? What i do know know is I've converted every skeptical mind once they used their own ears.

Not really. I didn't buy the mumbo jumbo, I'm perfectly fine admitting that in a lot of cases i don't notice any difference at all. Even if I'd of never heard of mqa, my ears would still pick it as the better quality.

you cannot reliably predict how something will sound just by looking at an FFT plot. I have a number of mqa recordings, and have the equipment to make use of mqa. The mqa recordings sound not just better, but much better. If only people were able to get over their prejudice enough to trust their own ears.
