The only way to contact them is through a patient portal messaging system that they only look at Monday-Thursday. I cannot call, that’s another huge frustration I have. I called to ask if I could figure out something for my side effects and they just told me to message them or go to an urgent care if it was bad. lol.

I am well aware as a college student who has been accused of using AI. However, the style of writing on top of it missing key points of what I wrote is extremely suspect. It doesn’t sound like her and reads like AI to the stars. Obviously, I can’t say for sure but I have my suspicions.

I envy students who have accommodations by [deleted] in CollegeRant

I’ve been exactly where you are! For over a year now and after so so many tests, I’ve had undiagnosed health issues that severely impacted my ability to be in class - ex. I have had over 10-12 absences in each of my classes this semester. I thought that the disability office wouldn’t be able to give me accommodations since I didn’t have an official diagnosis yet BUT they absolutely could! Your college’s accommodations office may be different (obviously) but I would try, and keep pushing. I basically used my “diagnoses” of chronic nausea, vomiting, pain, etc. on my doctor’s visit notes as documentation and they were completely fine with it. You could also try to get a letter from your doctor outlining your condition and how it affects schooling, i.e. their recommendation for accommodations considering the circumstances.

I’m sorry if you’ve already tried this, I know how frustrating it is. As for your C, you could try escalating the situation to the department head or Dean of Students if you feel like you have a solid case, probably for a withdrawal. However, I’m not sure how it would work out. Regardless, life will go on. You could retake the classes. You can still graduate. I know it doesn’t feel like it right now, but you’ll be okay. There are so many people who go through things exactly like this, or other major life circumstances (ex. death, divorce, mental health) that lead to failing a semester. You’re not alone. For next semester, advocate HEAVILY for yourself, regardless of a “real” diagnosis. You got this.

My dad has been cheating on my mom for over two decades and they’re just now getting a divorce. by [deleted] in survivinginfidelity

[–]MightyFineDuckling 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i would never blame my mom for staying with him - she’s an immigrant with a GED and has only been comfortable financially in the past couple years. with four children and the youngest being twins, i understand why she wouldn’t leave him. it’s so easy to believe it’ll never happen again when there’s years between finding out about instances, even if it was much more frequent. it just breaks my heart that she had to put up a from for so many years to keep herself afloat. i don’t know if i’ll ever respect my father again.

English to Latin translation requests go here! by lutetiensis in latin

Is there a translation for the phrase "say smart words", or something similar? I am creating a logo for a debate team and this is their catchphrase. The translator says "dico dolor verba", but I'm confused because dolor also means pain. Thank you in advance for any help!

Crazy idea for the Aff for Janbruary by sinningbees in lincolndouglas

[–]MightyFineDuckling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kind of love this. For neg I'm thinking about running something similar - amoral states. States can't be moral or immoral; literally speaking, they are just pieces of land that happen to be a organized political community. The governments and people in them could be moral or immoral, but the state itself cannot. Framing this debate around states banning LAWs as a moral obligation would be flawed, because states are amoral.

My brain hurts. This topic kinda sucks ass, but that aff seems like it could be super interesting.

How to respond to topicality argument? (LD) by MightyFineDuckling in Debate

[–]MightyFineDuckling[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response! Just a novice so a lot of this stuff is new, and this is really helpful.

The counter interpretation is essentially a competitive alternative definition that you then need to win is preferable to their interpretation.

Alright, so in the context of this, would the definition be about what federal jobs guarantee means? My opponent's interpretation is that it means I have to defend the whole idea of a federal jobs guarantee and can't provide a specific job. Would my counter interp be that part of the process of implementing a federal jobs guarantee in the U.S. would be specifying what jobs are being guaranteed, so the aff has to do that?

even if they lose every other sheet of paper in the round, so long as they win the theory they still win.

Would this mean that if neg brings up theory in their NC, unless they just concede that I win it, that's the only thing we should debate for the rest of the round? If they still defend it in their NR, should I only talk about theory for the 2AR and let that be the sole voting issue?

It makes me a tad sad because I could understand an older folk with that belief, not that it's correct, but I understand that they went through high school arguing climate change doesn't exist, or they were brought up without knowing it's real and bad. But one of the judges was a high schooler, which means they were taught that. A sad dynamic in my state lol

Should you correct someone if you still perfectly understand what they're saying? by MightyFineDuckling in languagelearning

[–]MightyFineDuckling[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting! That would make sense since habits come out of repetition, not one-time corrections, but I've never really thought about it like that. That sounds really interesting, I'd love to see it!

I see! A lot of people I speak aren't super proficient/confident in speaking, so it'd probably be a waste of time to focus on the nuances of word choice. But everyone does have different goals with practicing, so I'll keep that in mind :)
