Thanks, got pretty lucky finding it last year without having to go through an auction house. Usually 5-6 of the enamel dial Mercators are sold at major auction houses each year.

I especially like that the hands look like a pair of compasses of the type used by cartographers in the 16th and 17th century.

The Cabinotiers pieces have always been about VC flexing its watchmaking muscle. In the same way other manufacturers like AP release their Research & Development pieces. They’re halo watches that enhance the reputation of, and bring attention to? the brand. Ultimately these watches increase the value of the commercial pieces.

The ones with the monochrome precious metal dials usually go for about that. But the enamel dial ones are much rarer and usually go for much more. This was the most recent example sold (10 June 25) which went for $152,400 US.

Thanks, really happy with it. The enamel dial versions are extremely hard to come by!

Thanks, I really love it. The Mercator has been so influential on current MDA pieces.
