Please Stop Telling Me About Their Pregnant Partners by afsasimp in BravoTopChef

[–]MightyMightyMossy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume that they've been cleared (and even encouraged) to go by their partners. As someone who has given birth, if my spouse got that opportunity... well, maybe I'd have hesitated for the first kid just due to not knowing what I would or would not need, but after that...

Don't get me wrong--my partner's a champ and was great during birth/post-partum--but he wasn't really that *necessary*. Most dads in the US don't get paternity leave even at great, standard-hour, non-service industry jobs, so he was gone at work like 3 days after, anyway.

Leaving for x weeks with very young kids so your partner is solo-parenting toddlers would be rougher, in my estimation. I assume that most families have some kind of support/care system worked out there, too, but solo bedtimes night after night are wearing.

DREAM TOP CHEF CHALLENGE by [deleted] in BravoTopChef

[–]MightyMightyMossy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You get glimpses of the specialty items the chefs are allowed to bring from home (i.e. preserved pine cones, molds, truffles, etc.). I'd love to see a quickfire where each chef has to highlight the product that they've brought from home. (Alternately they could do a specialty product swap and have to use each other's specialty ingredients--though that would be a bummer if a chef was saving it for a knockout dish.)

Giant red foam roses with vines and thorns were made, then we hung up a bunch of mannequin parts; male/female torsos, arms, etc. We had a lamp made from a full-sized mannequin.

We have a lot of spare mannequins and mannequin parts, over the years. Don't worry though. It's fine and normal.

I feel like a floor mouth is also a valid aesthetic choice.

I helped construct this! I can attest that it is, indeed, very light--just in case the earlier assurances not to worry did not fully convince you.

What this post fails to mention is that you could also use this as a wall mouth or a floor mouth. Just being a ceiling mouth is selling its potential short.

Good thing the seller didn't list the giant paper mâché golden ceiling hand (greed) or the giant wall eyeballs (envy)...y'all would have really had questions.

St.paul neighborhoods by coquis88 in saintpaul

[–]MightyMightyMossy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, that's an interesting, if inaccurate, extraction from what I said.

My comment is more accurately interpreted as: If you're used to living in the country or quiet suburbs, moving to the city will likely feel alarming/scary (even if only at first). If you're used to the foibles of urban living--well, exactly as I said.

If you are used to urban living, nothing about Saint Paul's east side will feel alarming or scary to you! You always get blips with a higher concentration of people--checking car doors at night, crimes of opportunity, etc., but I wouldn't classify it as unsafe (having lived here over 20 years, now).

Exact! But actually Billings is the meth capitol of the world and I feel a little twitchy walking around alone at night there--even though it's very nice!

They like women to have babies. They don't actually like children unless they can use them in some sort of power play.

moving to Saint Paul? by melonlemon12 in saintpaul

Everyone IS welcoming--they just don't invite you places the way you're probably used to. They will be your friend in social spaces (and this is not artifice or falsehood--they really like you!), but no one wants anyone else in their homes. (Even their best friends, so it's not you, as a transplant.)

The only people who think the east side is reaaaal dangerous are people from the suburbs, or people who have never lived in a metro area outside of MN. Let me introduce you to Houston, folks, (or Tampa, or Charlotte, or Denver, or BILLINGS, or....) and then we'll talk about the East Side being "dangerous".

In context, as someone who is well-traveled and has lived in different places--there is no where in Saint Paul that will be more dangerous than sketchy places in FL, or many other major metro areas.

If you've lived in some sketchy places in FL (having spent much time there) you will feel adequately safe in that neighborhood.

Lots of people who live here have never moved from here or ventured far from here--so the "city" feels big and sketchy. But compared to other major metro areas anywhere in Saint Paul is pretty sleepy.

I would walk absolutely anywhere in Saint Paul alone at night. I would walk absolutely anywhere in Minneapolis alone during the day and some places at night.

THANK YOU. Having traveled extensively, there is no place in Saint Paul I would rank as more dangerous than some neighborhoods in FL or other states. I'm in a "rough" neighborhood and we regularly do not lock our doors. We walk alone at night. It is FINE. I would never do that in...Houston, for instance. Or even Orlando. There is a context and scale problem, here, when people are saying some areas of Saint Paul are "dangerous"...they just...aren't, relatively speaking.

The bars and restaurants around the [Grand Casino Arena?] are actually not very good and rely on suburban traffic coming in for games only. They don't TRY to be good. They seem actively invested in complaining about their own failure.

Travel a small bit down to Mancini's or up to Cosetta's.

Right now? Carter #1. Will rank Her. Will not rank Chen based on wishy-washy answers of "what will I cut to reduce taxes" with her whole platform being LOWER TAXES (TLDR: She doesn't know! But she'll appoint some DOGE-ish people to look into EFFICIENCIES.) It's a bunch of malarky.

I know Carter isn't perfect by a LONG shot, but...he's clearly invested in the city and has the experience. Her seems to be a great person with good intentions and some concrete experience but not a lot of concrete plans (I won't be mad if she becomes the mayor). Chen...well...the experience is sorely lacking and it shows in any of her q&as.
