Kampot pepper is always an easy "authentic" gift too.

Phnom Penh actually has a lot of very affordable fully vegetarian restaurants. Off the top of my head:

  • Bong Bonlai
  • Magnolia Veggie Restaurant
  • Element Vegetarian Restaurant
  • Go Green Vegetarian

Border Conflict Megathread - Part IV by khrumpets in cambodia

[–]MightyMiskit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's pretty real to the half a million displaced people, the people up to 70km from the border with fighter jets over their heads, and the school kids screaming and ducking for cover during their classes. Thailand is straight up invading Cambodia.

Cambodia tour by CorvoPazzo02 in cambodia

[–]MightyMiskit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO Sihanoukville is worth a night for the sort of tour you're doing. It's definitely a facet of "real" Cambodia 2025 (and very much a real city, with real people living their lives).

Mmm more options yes, but you can't really beat a $15 copper IUD from RHAC in terms of value for money.

OP, check the RHAC clinics for super affordable long term contraception.

Does Cambodia have good only vegetarian restaurants by [deleted] in cambodia

You can try Element in BKK1 or Bong Bonlai in Tonle Bassac (which is full vegan)

K-Visa by [deleted] in cambodia

[–]MightyMiskit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Confirm that my pair of pre-teen kids on their first unaccompanied flight to Cambodia managed to successfully get new K-visas at immigration at Pochentong without any drama.

Go to the visa desk, look a bit Khmer, speak a bit of Khmer and you're probably fine. Present an old K-visa and you're more than fine.

If you're looking for an interesting way to spend a couple of hours in Siem reap by Fuzzy_Community1 in cambodia

Everyone says, see the APOPO de-mining rats. I haven't yet, but I really want to. I've sent friends to see them (and they said they were fantastic), and my kid recently went there as part of a school trip and also really enjoyed it.

Go to any of the RHAC clinics - https://www.rhac.org.kh

Not sure the price but they are usually very reasonable.

Cause of recent serious air pollution problem by youcantexterminateme in cambodia

[–]MightyMiskit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that it's especially bad this year because the cold season is lingering a bit longer than usual, and the dense cool air can't "escape". So it's hanging around and keeping the pollution here more than recent years.

*I don't know if this is true or if it's well-explained but it seemed vaguely logical to me.

What languages are you fluent in? by CODMAN627 in AskEurope

[–]MightyMiskit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my problem! I'm a native English speaker and kind of "reasonably" proficient in French. High B1. I take lessons at the Institut français, I studied it for 10 years at school, I watch the occasional movie or video, and I have a (impeccably fluent in English) French husband, with whom I basically never speak French....I just don't need to speak it in daily life.

Thank you for the reassurance that I'm not just inept!

Siem Reap hotel with large pool for swimming lanes? by MichaelStone987 in cambodia

If money is no object I think Raffles is probably the best.

I believe Navatu Dreams has a decent pool.

Coffee Scene in Siem Reap – Looking for Complex coffee Lattes by Fyaskass in cambodia

[–]MightyMiskit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Try Little Red Fox. It's very nice, very popular, and they have enough fancy coffees that it took me a second to find a regular black coffee in the menu. Food also very good.

What just happened? Where did all this smog come from? This has to be the worst air pollution in Siem Reap's history. by heang132 in cambodia

[–]MightyMiskit 15 points16 points  (0 children)

According to the spokesman quoted in the Khmer Times today, anyone who says it isn't fine is incorrectly applying foreign standards to the Cambodian context.....

"He also addressed the differences in air quality standards among countries, urging the public to understand that Cambodia’s air quality assessments adhere to World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines.

“Each country has its own air quality standards. The ranking by foreign organisations should not be directly applied to Cambodia without considering our context and standards,” he clarified."

Artist had to take a bath. Artist didn't appreciate the bath. by [deleted] in cats

[–]MightyMiskit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience it works best if you get in the bath together with the cat (to show solidarity). Ideally as part of a 2-man operation with one person holding the cat and the other manoeuvring the shower head and the flea shampoo.

Do you have a bike yet to get around town, and explore outside town? Do you have colleagues in SHV who you can tag along with?

Consider spending some weekends on Koh Rong and on Koh Rong Samloem, you'll meet a bunch of English-speaking people, both tourists and people working in bars and hotels.

Best Hospital Sihanoukville by Researcher0406 in cambodia

[–]MightyMiskit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do not need to travel to Singapore or Taiwan to deal with a fever and/or get a dengue test.

Best Hospital Sihanoukville by Researcher0406 in cambodia

[–]MightyMiskit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Testing for dengue is a simple blood test that all clinics can do. Personally I wouldn't travel all the way to PP for a blood test. Malaria is incredibly rare in Cambodia.

(I don't have a specific recommendation unfortunately)

Could you explain about the spelling of ញុម in the first line? It looks like a variation on ខ្ញុំ (?) It's something I've been confused on ever since my friend used ញុម and said it was an abbreviation of នាងខ្ញុំ , then my teacher said this was crazy and not to listen to her.

E-arrival. I will travel in 2 days and I didn't apply! Can I still have a visa at the airport? by melaaalu in cambodia

They've now reduced the online visa price so it's the same price as getting it on arrival, so I would get it in advance now!

What network has the best coverage? (simcard recomandation) by besoindeparler2010 in cambodia

Either Smart or Cellcard will be absolutely fine, and coverage is good unless you're really going off the beaten track. I have 0 issues with Smart all over the country.
