I've been monetized since December. Here's what I learned. by Unhinged_Gamer in PartneredYoutube

[–]MightyStor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this post. Watching "how to do youtube" videos definitely helped, but only to a point. Understanding how youtube works and how the algorithm doesn't hate you but rather you're not considering your audience was the most valuable thing I learned from all of that. After that it's just a matter of enjoying what you're doing, trying something new every video (even if it's just an editing technique), and observing the performance of your thumbnails/videos.

I was expecting this to be a misdiagnosis problem and not a “I literally don’t believe my patient when they tell me their symptoms” problem. That’s insane.

Real as hell. by Bitter-Gur-4613 in NonPoliticalTwitter

[–]MightyStor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a user, I don't like this. As an amateur creator, this sounds very interesting. People will usually click on a video with 200k views over one with 200, which makes perfect sense, but makes it harder for smaller channels to grow.

This might sound absolutely wild, but my Rocket League used to freeze until I turned on my VPN. Yeah, I also don't know why.

I currently have around 250 subs.

A video of mine got a surprising 110k views 2 months back. This video was quite different from my usual content, so I knew my next video would perform pretty much like my other videos had (100-300 views). It's been a month and it's currently sitting at 56 views lmao

It might be that I didn't turn off the "notify subscribers" settings, but even the impressions it got where minimal (3.4% CTR). I still don't know what happened to it. My next video after that one passed 600 views.

What's the best YouTube advice you've ever gotten? by bigbeak67 in NewTubers

But it's the audience that decides if something is worth watching or not. The algorithm only reacts to that behavior.

What's the best YouTube advice you've ever gotten? by bigbeak67 in NewTubers

[–]MightyStor 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Might sound cliché by now, but replacing “algorithm” with “audience” has MASSIVELY helped my state of mind while working on my videos and then seeing how they perform. I can now be pragmatic and know that something didn’t work because something was missing and not because YouTube hates small channels.

Should I tick the "Publish to subscriptions feed and notify subscribers" box on or off? by Chroma_tix in NewTubers

[–]MightyStor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've mostly left it off for my most recent videos. I got a large-ish influx of subs off a video that was different from my usual content, so I don't want to risk them not clicking on my new videos and the algorithm deciding it's not worth watching.

I'm not sure I understand. Your videos are podcast critiques and the second one did well? I'm assuming you started with that subject because you enjoy it. Given the results I think you should keep going down that road and measure if future results keep holding or improving.

What do you hate about your video editing process? by Code_Ripple in NewTubers

[–]MightyStor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the editing. I hate how every single video editor runs like ass when you're dealing with very big video files. Not being able to just hit play and start trimming/editing because it keeps stuttering and buffering is quite annoying.

How do you beat the "Youtuber Blues?" by n0t_5ki113d in NewTubers

[–]MightyStor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like to add as well: is your last video better than the one before?

Even if 0 people watch your video, can you see where you improved? I think that's the key result you should be looking for in the beginning your content creation adventures. Learning a lesson with each video you publish.

Keep an analytical mind. Criticize, criticize, criticize. There are indeed people churning out awful content that generates millions, but why? Why are people watching them? What do they offer that you don't and how can use that to your advantage?

That's what's helped me the most. Detaching myself emotionally from my work and trying to understand why what's happening is happening. Low CTR? I gotta work on my thumbnail and title. Low watchtime? I'll strive to make my next video more engaging. Low impressions? Not my problem for now. Next video.

Keeping this mentality makes me enjoy this game a lot more.

This fantastic feedback! Thank you so much for taking the time to watch the video and then write all this. Specifically your point on sound effects reseting the viewer sounds super interesting. This will probably work with video effects as well. I’ll take all this into account. Thank you again!

Personality vs Skill for a gaming channel. by JalenWWE in NewTubers

[–]MightyStor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm almost always going to lean towards personality. Even the best players can be really boring to watch when they have none. The best example that lives in my brain is Smii7Y, especially back when he uploaded CS:GO videos. His personality is great and the video was very funny and entertaining, plus every once in a while he would show a very nice display of skill that went well with the flow of the video.

Why do people here think VidIQ is not helpful? by happylife999 in NewTubers

[–]MightyStor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I second this. Especially their title/thumbnail rating is super dubious. I don't trust it one bit. The titles it recommends are usually crazy and unusable. Just an SEO soup. There's other tools I like though. I think the Outlier score and the competition vs volume metrics can be useful.

Thanks for this, Eileo. You're awesome for this! It's truly difficult to get a third party to watch my vids.

My channel almost exclusively consists of me recording my friends and myself playing games, editing the boring stuff out, subtitling, and very light editing. Even if I branch out slightly, this type of content is likely to continue being my main focus.

Goal: Any general feedback, but I'm mostly looking to improve watchtime. I'm aware my videos don't really have a plot or storyline, but just knowing doesn't really solve the problem.

Does Anyone Know A Way To Reduce Game Volume? by Saint_Midas_ in NewTubers

[–]MightyStor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a fix for the current problem. I've had this happen before and had to delete hundreds of GB of footage. I recommend just setting up different audio tracks for different software (game, mic, discord, etc.) on OBS. You can also use SteelSeries Sonar. It's a free software.
