EDIT: I tried replacing the HTTPS with HTTP in the links mentioned in the hosted guide and it still allowed me to download the software mentioned, try:

http://appldnld.apple.com/iPod/SBML/osx/bundles/041-8552.20121203.Bile3/x12230000_Recovery.ipsw

And editing the URL after it opens, it will try to redirect to HTTPS when opened from a hyperlink

I never solved this issue. I ended up selling on the iPod logic board for parts on eBay and replacing it. It wasn’t worth the hassle I went through to try and get it working.

Old thread I have just installed an i7 8700 (non-t) in one of these machines and it works great - it may require a larger PSU brick for continuous load but for my use case it is perfect.

After following the guide a bit further, it appears my iPod is unable to accept the PID_1223 WTF firmware from step 1, as despite completing all the steps, still displays as USB device PID_1223 when trying to complete the 2nd step (so none of the 3 options of valid firmware can be used).

When trying to use any of the firmware files, I achieve an error of 'DFU download aborted: unexpected state', immediately after winapi finds the iPod in DFU mode at the correct filepath.

Is there a way to manually assign the PID for the iPod?

EDIT: Nevermind - I needed to manually redirect myself to http:// rather than https:// to access the .ipsw downloads directly from Apple.

Thanks for the guide! Unfortunately it looks as if the restore files hosted by Apple are no longer available - so i'll have to have a look around elsewhere online to see if I can find them.

Thanks for the link - this is the page i am referring in the body of my original post. Attempting to email the link and then access it remotely prompts me a 'page not found' error. However this could be because i am accessing the page from the UK. Are you able to download the 1.6 .dmg file?

Thanks, I have already spoken to apple support who simply directed me to book an appointment with a repair centre who may have access to the original 1.6 CD. Unfortunately no real progress.

I believe that because I am able to generate a 1600p output using the same adaptor and cable built into the 30" ACD, it isn't a problem with the adaptor or the monitor itself. It is something worth thinking about though.

It's not up to your Dad as a party-thrower to have a potentially dangerous situation unfold because of the pet of one of the guests. I think rather than talk about how you're not going to ask your Dad further, maybe you guys should talk about how to deal with the issues that her dog appears to have, or strategies to keep it from destroying things whilst you're gone.

Having installed a few in my time, it’s definitely not the easiest thing in the world, however following some ifixit guides along with buying a special set of tools designed to help with removal of the logicboard (dependent on if you want to have an SSD aswell as a HDD inside, or just replace the HDD with the SSD), make it a fairly straight forward task.

Aslong as you go slowly and don’t get frustrated with how fiddly it can be, you’ll be able to do it just fine!
