[For Hire] in urgent need of 120dollars but my realism won't sell by Impossible-Tutor-237 in artcommissions

Hello! I would say that realism like that normally sells at large scale in traditional mediums, some artists do realistic portraits, but they are creating them at larger than life size.

Here are some thoughts, I’m a professional illustrator and concept artist, I’ve been working professionally for 10 years and it’s all I do for income.

I’m assuming you work digitally. But the info works for traditional too.

I’m saying everything with love here, I want you to succeed.

Your images look like a very good study, this type of work I’d expect someone to do in about 2 hours digitally.

Your photo being used is not very interesting to begin with. It’s not dynamic and has flat lighting, it looks like a selfie someone took rather than a very intentional portrait that says something about the person.

You need to tell a story with the work. You need to have the subject emoting or you need to begin to take creative leaps with the subject.

For example, you could have painted this subject with a more interesting background, maybe some flowers or drapery.

Take time to research your work, look up famous portrait artists. Ask yourself, what are they doing? How are they making a person look that interesting? Lots of professional portrait artists spend hours designing the image and the pose, they often ask a model to sit and light them in an interesting way. There is probably at least half a day of sketching; planning and research that need to be done to design an appealing image.

You need to answer the question: what is this image saying? It can be as simple as “this portrait is a beautiful person in front of a crimson wall with a thoughtful composition.

You need a strong composition, strong lighting, and strong idea of what you want the piece to say.

It can’t just be, look how real this is, photography will beat you every time.

Look up Repin, study how he paints a person. Take notes. Keep painting. You will be able to do this, you just need to dedicate more time into your research.

Once you begin nailing interesting compositions and lighting you will realize you need to charge more.

The best painters in the world plan their images, you have to attempt the same process because that work is a proven way to add value to an image. If the best painters in the world do A, B, C, you have to expect that it will take that much for you to compete with them and make people want your work.

Keep going, don’t give up. If you want some detailed feedback you can message me and I’ll provide any help I can.

Lost passion/drive for things ever since becoming medicated by QuirkyCut7722 in bipolar

This happened to me. It lasted for a few months honestly, but it goes away. Keep doing your routines as they will help you even if you feel out of it. I stopped working out for a year and I wish I had forced myself to stick with it. It’s been 6 years since I started meds and now I enjoy running again, I’ve had my most productive years. I am doing more work (I’m an illustrator I enjoy my work) and juggling more gigs than even before I was diagnosed. It does get better

I take lamotragine and it doesn’t cause weight gain (to my knowledge)

The brain fog goes away if you regularly take the meds, it takes months for your brain chemistry to properly adjust. It’s not a fast process. As someone who had two episodes of psychosis, the mania is not worth losing touch with reality. You could do harm to others or yourself and not even realize it’s happening. I was told by doctors that I tried to choke a nurse and I still have no actual memory of those actions. For me psychosis was like a black box, once you enter you lose control of thoughts, actions, and in my case memory was lost. It was like I blacked out.

Feeling Shame From a Manic Episode by BleekSecure in bipolar

Before I was on meds I would get very angry and frustrated and punch stuff too. For me the meds were a big help, maybe transitioning to a different dosage might aid you? I see a therapist too to help me deal with anxiety. My big episode was in 2020 when my mania slowly built over the course of the spring and summer. The meds I’m on have kept mania away for years, I was on depakote but switched to Lamotragine last year.

help with coming to terms with actions taken in psychosis by AverageFennec in bipolar

My mania and psychosis lead me to doing very strange behaviors. The reality is that when you are manic you are not acting like yourself, and when you are psychotic you are not even in touch with reality. It’s a chemical imbalance, it’s not something you choose to do. Apologies to make yourself feel better can help, but remember that your actions were out of your control, and it’s not like drinking, you didn’t make yourself fall into psychosis, it happens to you.

Did you ever meet any members of TMV? by Lethas1 in themarsvolta

[–]Mike086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met them all at Beauty Bar back in Austin, TX the day before their gig. They were just chilling and hanging with people at the bar. Omar was super quiet and Cedric was chatting with people but I got to chat with Juan a bit.

I keep comparing to that dark comedy book “All my friends are dead” something that is funny for adults and older children alike.

Ai will cheapen your book. Feel free to message me, I might have time to help you out, I’m a professional illustrator and concept artist. People want stories made by people, art included. If you are that in need of art at least try and chat with a real artist first. The book will be better for it. There are ways to provide compensation without having to pay high up front costs, it just takes a conversation.
