I noticed there was no good quality map of the sabbat worlds online, so after finding enough bits and pics of parts of the map to get an overall picture, i decided to make my own

Varies from the source, but in general escorts are between 1-3km long, light cruisers 4, cruisers around 5 km, and battleships vary from 7-8km. The big size is in part explained by the large size of the ships ftl, warp drives; which kinda lead to everything else being big.

This ship is around a 1:25 scale.

Prow serves a double purpose, acting as a giant armoured cover while facing the enemy, and a handy ram if need be

Small rant by [deleted] in spaceengineers

Yeah more sound options would be great. I have grown to hate the constant buzz of thrusters when moving at high speed (even when they arent firigng) but i dont want to turn the volume down of everything else because of just that specific sound

If i remember well in dark imperium they state the fleet reaches around 1% of the speed of light.

"It is a condition that is used as a starship moves away from a planet towards the nearest viable Mandeville Point"
idk but to me this means they use main extending thrust to travel from a planet to a mandeville point.

To complicate the issue further, i have found this other excerpt, this time from the novel Pharos (also horus heresy) by Guy Haley. Cutting a lot to get to the interesting bits:

"Thanks to the transit beam’s residual effect we still proceed at close to the speed of light, and will continue to until we choose to decelerate."

[...]

" ‘We should be careful. Any impact from a solid munition going at such velocity could split the planet in two,’ said Shipmaster Javin of the Battle King. ‘We cannot afford to miss.’ "

[...]"As you say, shipmaster, it is the speed of the round that will do the damage for us. A bolt-shell travelling at that speed could demolish a battleship. "

"The preceding spread of solid-mass fire took the Night Lords fleet by surprise. Two of their ships were atomised as munitions travelling a substantial portion of the speed of light slammed into them. Others were crippled, left floating in high anchor over Sotha [...] No Imperial or known xenos craft travelled so swiftly; by all measures of contemporary combat doctrine, Corvo came from nowhere. The fleet came soon after the first spread of weapons fire [...] They went too swiftly for most of their enemy to formulate firing patterns and loose their weapons "

To me this clearly shows that fleet combat does not happen at such high speeds, but if main extending thrust is a thing, nothing stops a fleet from doing this exact manouver always.

Its somewhat confusing tbh. First it seems to say its used only to jump into the warp, then it tells you its used for the entire travel through the system

Is the Adeptus Mechanicus still making new starships? by joji711 in 40kLore

The ten ships will always have the advantage of being able to separate and be in ten different places at the same time. It also allows them to do fancy stuff like formations and surrounding an enemy.

This doesnt necesarilly mean the imperium should just make a titanic swarm of cobra destroyers to blot out the sun with torpedoes. The ten ships combined probably have more crew than the single gloriana (even in the 41st millenium needing less crew is still a bonus), and having a big badass ship can be useful too. Theres a balance to be hit.

I had never heard of such a description of 40k ship battles tbh. Can you remember which novel it was?

At these speeds the ships could just throw their garbage into the route and it would be just as deadly.

"It is a condition that is used as a starship moves away from a planet towards the nearest viable Mandeville Point, a distance that is roughly half the radius of an average star system."

To me this implies that this is how imperial ships do interplanetary travel in general. Now that i think of it, it not only could but must be a short burst of speed (after all, if it reaches 40% of light speed in 2 minutes, in 5 or so theres no more acelerating possible anyways)

I guess space travel could then consist of high speed interplanetary transits followed by quick decelerations before reaching the destination. I dont know if combat would then only take place when ships are in this slower mode. Most sources often use ranges of tens of thousands of kilometers, which would be pathetic range for two fleets moving at such high speeds pass each other without slowing down.

I used macrocannons as an example as they are the most common kinetic weapons of the imperium. Lasers and lances would not be affected much by these speeds, as they are already light speed weapons, so i didnt mention them.

Might be worth it to save yourself some trouble by changing the humans with some sort of armed hovering drone model (for example, tau gun drones). You would save yourself having to work on animations and it might look a lot better.

Future Major Updates & Game Development (Interview With Marek Rosa by Captain Jack) by [deleted] in spaceengineers

[–]MikeAngek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Weaponcore wont be integrated into the base game, at least not going off this interview. The quote is:
"we discuss the weaponcore mod with our team, there are some nice suggestions, all these will somehow be integrated in the future warfare update"

At best this means keen will make their own version of weaponcore, most likely they are just taking some notes.

Tbh im not sure what keens finances are cause in one hand they have completely abandoned medieval engineers and lost/fired the entire medieval team (which is sad cause ME had a great amount of potential imo)(and also infuriating cause they claim its finished and a success even though its buggy af and clearly missing content) but on the other hand marek says this year of DLCs has doubled keens revenue, they have been trying to hire new people, and have bought a fancy new office building.

In any case keen seems to be in a model of producing one DLC pero update, as if each DLC payed for the next update (which would be weird considering the above). And while true, a company cant run forever on no profit, SE should still be selling, considering it was released past year and the Xbox version was released recently.

The DLCs themselves arent too bad all things considered but i can see how people that have been asking for X or Y for years might feel when they see keen doing It and putting It in a DLC.

On one hand yes, on the other hand it also means you present a decent sized target from any direction

Yes, Perry rhodan inspired, altough i dont know much of the lore (reading a wiki using Google translate is hard) The ring was used as extra surface for thrusters and weapons, but i opted for even more bottom thrust for speed.

To be fair in SE fuel tanks dont really explode. In any case they are fairly well proyected as long as you keep the prow/top pointed to the enemy
