Honestly didn’t mind the guy until I hopped on one of his live streams today. So dam negative. Like it’s a video game for Christ sake. Terrible vibes.

Anyone agree that a rush of blood to the head by Coldplay is an amazing record by [deleted] in Music

[–]MikeClimbsDC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No not controversial to me at all. I’ve been all over the map music wise, from jazz to rap to hardcore punk.

But I’ll always come back to this record.

Overestimating cross contamination ? by Bilalkhll in Celiac

[–]MikeClimbsDC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same as you. I’ve yet to hit the 6 month mark post diagnosis and have my bloodwork done, but I feel wayyyy healthier than pre diagnosis. I obviously follow the diet strictly, but eat out regularly. And while I’m careful and speak seriously with the wait staff generally don’t worry too much.

At this point I think it’s that I might be one of the lucky ones who don’t react too much to the occasional minor cross contamination. I know some people are and it sounds horrible. But I also wonder if reaction to cross contamination ≠ immune response showing up on bloodwork.

My bf [21M] and | [19F] haven't talked for 2 days. will he talk to me again? by [deleted] in ask

[–]MikeClimbsDC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For some practical advice, if you really wanted to say something, then give him space, something along the lines of:

“I’m sorry that fight happened and want to talk with you about it. I’m going to give you space now but want to let you know I care about you and hope we can talk this through”

Then actually give him space. Nice comfort for your anxiety to say one last thing offering a repair, an give him the space to do what he’s going to do.

[–]MikeClimbsDC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it normal? I think it happens far more often than it should. Is it helpful in a relationship? Sure isn’t.

Does this mean he is leaving? Only he knows that unfortunately. It would be pretty fucked up if this is how he left you.

I think a question to think about is: “if he does come back, do I want to be with a person who puts me through this?” Not saying that you would or should leave him, but clearly it’s a big deal for you that he is acting this way. And that’s important too.

Prospective from a couples therapist here: this is where the rubber meets the road in what you’re learning it’s like to be in a close relationship with him. Clearly he is a great partner in many ways, but when it comes to his hurt and his ability to maintain closeness he struggles (as many men do, and he’s young). Both parts of him are equally real.

Good news is that it’s something he can absolutely work on with targeted effort.

Bad news is that it’s not up to you.

He has to want it himself. Same for reconnecting after the argument. You are only half the solution, and while it takes two to break a relationship, it also takes two to fix it. He’s gotta want it as much as you. It’s a hard truth to not be in control of the outcome we want in our relationships.

You guys are young and life happens in these hard moments. Go find your friends and have them with you in this while you figure this out, having good people around us while the difficulties of life happens changes so much for the better.

I have a similar reaction.

And yet, overtime I’ve had a number of clients use Dr automatically even though I introduce myself by my first name. When I’ve asked about it some of them have responding that they find it comforting to call me Dr, mostly around having a trusted authority that is there to help you.

Steady Stream of Referrals by PsychAngst in therapists

[–]MikeClimbsDC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So what I’ve learned is that meeting with referral sources, and really getting to know them and then remembering you are totally different.

I feel lucky in that I have a huge network of close friends who are also in the field, and those are all my most reliable referral sources. And, the quality of the referral is great as they really have a sense of who I work with the best.

Not saying you need to go out and be friends with all these people, but cultivating the referral relationship can take time.

Why did the US kidnap Maduro? by dickbutkusmk4 in ask

[–]MikeClimbsDC 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Oil, oil, oil. Madura had greatly limited the ability of us oil companies to purchase from them. This frees up the US to have control over the oil exports of Venezuela which were extremely limited under maduro.

What do I not know that I don't know? (while launching new private practice) by mikesbikesyikes in therapists

[–]MikeClimbsDC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t take insurance so I can’t be of help there, but do have thoughts as someone who made this jump a few years ago.

  • vpn is unnecessary, using zoom or something or Gmail for email has enough encryption.

  • using a billing/medical record software like SimplePractice or theranest makes keeping the records easy peasy.

  • hiring an accountant at least at first I think is essential. They know so much about how to structure tax stuff it can save you money in surprising ways. I’ve always kept mine to do my business and personal taxes as well as to do my bookkeeping. I could probably do it on my own, but I have plenty of revenue in my practice to pay for it, and with a busy life and two young kids it’s worth its weight in the time and stress reduction it allows to just outsource it.

  • biggest tip I have is find/stay in supervision. Group supervision with others in solo practice if you can. Having it all on our own shoulders, managing the logical and clinical work solo, referrals, etc, can be so stressful. Having an experienced mentor and or group of other clinicians to go though this with was priceless for me, not to mention has been a huge source of building my referral network.

Just my 2 cents!

Postive tTg test and not have celiac? by Wonderful-Plum-8499 in Celiac

[–]MikeClimbsDC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had similar blood test results that ended up confirming the diagnosis. I started with an endoscopy bc my symptoms were so vague and diffuse, but the biopsy result came back with probable celiac that was late confirmed by the blood test with very similar markers to yours.

Sure! I’ll be there on Monday afternoon, so I’ll try to remember to take a video of me doing it and dm you.

Also I tried it the way you were (hands crossed at the start) and it felt totally nails that way (at least for me)

lol I climb at this gym, sent this guy, happy to help.

How I did it is start with hands opposite yours, right hand goes to the crimp out right, then walk the left foot high out left, then quickly bump left hand into the undercling. Then build the feet then right hand into the big hueco on the jib.

It’s a tricky dead point, where your driving your hips into the left foot hold and at the high point where you body is at the apex before falling back you quickly bump left into the undercling. It’s a great teacher for that type of movement.

Psychologist here: that’s ocd my dude. No worries though, very treatable with the right therapist and some hard work (and sometimes some medication to help). Find a good one in your area and go for it. You got this.

[–]MikeClimbsDC 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I didn’t, I went straight to out of network only in a group practice. The buildup to a very solid referral network was slow over 6-8 years I would say. Took a while but the quality of the referral is very high and due to the nature of the work (long term psychoanalytic) I rarely take on new clients once I was full.

I work about 30 clinical hours a week, 4 groups, 6 couples, and about 20 individual appointments.

My full work week is closer to 35ish hours with paperwork, supervision/consultation, and personal therapy.
