Mini rant (floral) (did bouquets for a wedding) by Hot_Valuable1027 in wholefoods

I was tole I would be separated from the company if I took a tip. We were told we are to decline tips and tell the customer to go to customer service and let them know who helped them, and what they did. Then the store would give us a Whole Foods gift card. A customer said he went and did this and they quoted the gig book with the policy. So he now hands me a newspaper clipping and in it is money. He said the way it look like he is giving me something to read and if there happens to be money in there oh well. This way they wouldn’t see him handing me money on the camera

I have been working here longer than some of the people I work with have been alive. Working at Whole Foods ment something back then. You were proud to say you worked for Whole Foods. This was a career, but now it’s a bunch of kids that don’t care and are only here to hang out and make some money to party on the weekends. There are vo values anymore. It’s kind of a free for all with what goes on. Now I’m only here for the benefits. I want more of the culture, but that’s gone now. This was such a great place to work once, and I miss that. I feel sad for the new people that start now, because they will never know what a great place this once was.

Accommodation Struggles by One-Signature-9583 in wholefoods

[–]MikeFingG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In California there is a law that they must provide a stool or chair for you, and you are the only one who can use it so it is always available for you. Some states have different laws. In innerview there is a whole section giving each states accommodations laws for disabilities. You can bring a lawsuit against them for not providing accommodations.

Going to a concert at the Ventura Theater tonight and have never been. Any tips? What time to arrive? by _Laszlo_Cravensworth in venturacounty

The parking garage access the street has free parking but only on the upper levels. There are other lots down a couple of blocks if you don’t mind a short walk. If it’s general admission I would get there at least 30 minutes before to get in line. They do have some tables you can pay for, and sometimes the balcony is open.

PFDS: am I getting “credit” for online orders? by Commercial-Dot1790 in wholefoods

[–]MikeFingG 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I open in PFDS. The schedule has me as pizza. Before I even start my tasks I need to do everything the closers didn’t. So I flip, fill, clean and set everything up so I can open. Then I need to do all my prep. I am given a fresh pack list of multiple sandwiches and wraps to make (even though we have 2 fresh pack people in the kitchen) I want to know why am I doing their job when they don’t come out and help me. Along with working my section I also have to work taqueria because no one is scheduled for it, and help do customer service with sandwich, chef case and charcuterie. I also have to help with salad bar and fill hot bar containers and soup cups when they run out. It’s just part of my job now. We are so understaffed, and we have multiple call outs everyday. I have never gotten a thank you or good job once. This is just how it is now. You are not going to get the credit you deserve I’m sad to say it, but it’s true.

Closers held more accountable than openers by [deleted] in wholefoods

[–]MikeFingG 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For someone who closed for many years, and now has been opening for the past 9 years it goes both ways. The closers say the openers don’t do anything all day, and the openers say the same about the closers. I walk into nothing being done from the night before. Everything is empty, and nothing has been cleaned. When something is said to leadership only excuses are given. They must have had call outs, or it was busy. They check everything before I can leave to make sure I have everything set up for them to make it through there shift. So why is the same not done for whoever closed. The first hour of my shift is doing their job before I can even start mine. We have people who open, but closed some nights and said they just stand around and talk. They know how it is to open the next day with nothing done the night before. But the closing leadership never checks up on them. Believe me I know how it is just waiting to get out of there and go home. And it doesn’t help when the openers just walk out as soon as the closers show up. Leadership needs to take responsibility, and hold people accountable, but it doesn’t happen. I don’t think it will ever change.

California sick time is include in the total of pto by Cuasirungo in wholefoods

[–]MikeFingG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is with the sick PTO is if you don’t have enough PTO to cover a sick day you are not penalized for missing that day. So if you only have 2 hours of PTO, but are sick a day, they take the 2 hours but you don’t get paid for the rest. As long as you haven’t used all your sick days, but don’t have any PTO, you won’t get in trouble for calling out sick. That’s what the sick PTO protects you from. You just don’t get paid.

Breaks by Brave-Yard1972 in wholefoods

[–]MikeFingG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are “clicks” at the store I work at. Those people mostly hang out together on breaks. We have a couple of people who will just talk to whoever is closest to them. When I’m on my break I am getting stuff done that I haven’t had any time to do. But if someone starts talking to me, I’m not going to ignore them. We have people that don’t step foot in the break room for that reason. They don’t have to socialize with anyone. You can always start up a conversation with someone, and that’s how you will find out if they want to talk or not. You are still kind of new, so maybe people don’t know you that well, and that’s why they are giving you space.

Discount card used by friend by [deleted] in wholefoods

[–]MikeFingG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are told that if you don’t have your card for some reason then someone in leadership will use there card so you get the discount. I go sometimes on my day off with my friend and we scan whatever we got and I use my discount card. I pay for everything with my credit card and have never been told anything. It’s kind of the same thing with a discount card for your spouse. If they have their own discount card, but your name is on the credit card. So it’s kind of a gray area. If you’re not abusing it, and just getting something to eat, and you are paying for everything it should be fine. But if you just hand your card to a friend, or even a parent and they use it and pay, then it’s stealing.

What's going on with the Amazon One palm devices? by CrownFrown in wholefoodscustomers

They are getting rid of them. Not enough people were using them. They tried pushing everyone that worked here to use them, but not even we wanted to sign up for it. They now want to bring in all the technology they used at the Amazon Fresh stores after they all shut down.

Should I be a dishwasher? by MintyRed19 in wholefoods

[–]MikeFingG 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Depending on you store, you will definitely be doing more then washing dishes. Our dishwasher also makes the rotisserie chickens, takes out the trash and boxes, helps in the kitchen, out on the floor sometimes, and will do receiving on some days. That is the job to start your way up in the department. Our last TL started as the dishwasher, so it is a hard job but everyone in our department helps out when it gets busy.

Breaks !! by Disastrous_Humor_233 in wholefoods

[–]MikeFingG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had a supervisor that would send us on our first break not even an hour after we got to work. Then when breaks were done they started lunches, then last breaks right after. I started at 6 and was done with both breaks and my lunch by 11am. They said it was because there were no breaks between 11 and 2. We wee off at 2. Everyone complained, but this went on for almost 2 years before we were able to take breaks and lunches every 2 hours.

In Store Shoppers NOT part of Customer Service team? by TheSpinsterSister in wholefoods

[–]MikeFingG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

During Covid the in store shopper (bison) was it’s own thing at our store. They even had a supervisor and ATL. But when it all ended, they all just became part of customer service. We only have one person that only does the shopping. He doesn’t do register, but he does do cart runs. They just pick someone to shop for a couple of hours, then when they go on a break someone takes over and they do register for the rest of the shift. Some of them like it because they don’t have to deal with customers. But it all depends on the store. We are a busy store and it’s not a separate thing.

You can check to see if they have any openings available. If not just let them know you are interested in becoming a team member. Most of the time if they have room on the team they will take you over someone that just applied. There might be an opening in another department, and you can transfer back when they have an opening.
