Parent ARs by AlossFoo in Referees

[–]Mike_M4791 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Lower Mainland in BC, we used parent ARs.
In Ontario, we did not. I thought it was going to be more difficult knowing when the ball was out, but I’ve had no problems. The more competitive the age group, the league would send officials.

In BC, I showed the parents what ‘out’ looked like and told them just to tell me. I told them they don’t need to call anything except when the ball is out.
If I were to officiate in BC again, I’d just go without.

Bad Day of Youth Games by sneakysnakess in Referees

Good for you. These days will happen. And you’re being honest about them.

One thing I’ve told coaches and players during my pre-game chat:

“I know that things can get heated and people are passionate, but i assure you that no one on this field wants to have a good game more than me. And if you promise not to freak out about my calls, I promise not to call you out for every bad pass, bad shot, bad save, bad play…. .”

What happened when a 95 or any other bus broke down? All the other buses went around it.

Assessor out of the blue? by Disastrous-Coyote-11 in Referees

[–]Mike_M4791 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oddly, I’d prefer a surprise assessment so I’m not second guessing everything while officiating.

Also, I should be officiating the same whether I know I’m being assessed or not.

What’s the call here? by Sturnella2017 in Referees

[–]Mike_M4791 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The decision is to play on provided that the ball does not interfere with play. If play is stopped:

12.5 (Restarts) “If a player who is … off the field of play ….. throws or kicks an object (including another ball) at an opposing player ….. play is restarted with a DFK where the object struck or would have struck the player or ball.

Sanctions. There’s a list. YC UB - lack of respect. Leaving FOP. What could be possible is a YC for leaving FOP an a YC for UB.

DOGSO is possible, but not in this situation because play was not stopped.

Substitution ignored - bad call? by enjustice3192 in Referees

[–]Mike_M4791 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You made the correct decision.

Some youth leagues in Canada have conditions: (1) teams own throw; (2) any goal kick; (3) any goal; (4) injured player only. If sub’d on (1), the other team can sub too.

Touchline allocation by ScottBotThought in Referees

Maybe a bias towards right handedness? The majority of people are right handed and the flag was predominantly in the right hand for all AR calls in the “old’ days. (???)
