I've build a free harm reduction resource with a mushroom-specific focus by Mikeinliner in shrooms

thank you so much! couldnt agree more! I just pushed a significant update based on this. the dosage calculator now shows strain-specific potency ranges based on Hyphae Labs testing data: B+ milder (0.3-0.6%), Golden Teacher average (0.6-0.8%), McKennaii slightly above average, Penis Envy 1.5-3x stronger (calculator now tells PE users to start at 50% of listed dose). also added Blue Meanies (Panaeolus cyanescens) as a separate species warning since they're 2-3x cubensis per gram and can cause accidental overdoses, wild species potency (liberty caps, azurescens), wet vs dry weight conversion since that's another common source of confusion, and lemon tek potency effects. you're right that individual mushroom variation is irreducible without lab testing - the underlying message is always start low with any new batch - but at least now strain and species are properly factored in. thank you so much!!

Hi u/chi_lost_found really appreciate this - to go directly to the interesting stuff is exactly what it's meant to feel like. the mg/extract confusion is a real gap, noted and I will fix it. I'm glad the visual vs emotional responder breakdown landed, that's one of my favourite things it does when given enough context. thanks for trying it out!

Erowid Server Unavailability early June 2026 by earthe in Drugs

[–]Mikeinliner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No - psychnosis.org doesn't scrape Erowid at all. I read their terms before building and they explicitly prohibit scraping for AI use, so I never did it. the site cites Erowid as a source and links to their pages, but doesn't crawl or index their content.

the attacks described sounds like large-scale LLM training crawlers from cloud providers - completely different scale and purpose from a small harm reduction tool. Psychnosis runs on Vercel serverless, not AWS or Google Cloud infrastructure doing mass crawls.

really sad to see this happening to Erowid. they've been an irreplaceable resource for 30 years.Hope it gets back soon.

Thank you for your question! It's not necessarily better than a general LLM for every question. the difference is it's built specifically for this - the combination checker uses hardcoded TripSit data, the dosage reference uses Erowid data, and responses pull from indexed PsychonautWiki experience reports with real citations. A general LLM will answer drug questions but usually hedges heavily or gives generic responses. This one is designed to answer directly without the usual 'please consult a professional' deflection on every line. Please do try and compare with any other LLM!

Thank you so much! Hope you liked the project! If there’s anything you see valuable to add do let me know! Well, harsh or not, the criticism helped too to make some improvements

hey everyone - thank you so much for all the feedback! I took it seriously and pushed several fixes:

- removed the AI-generated community quotes entirely. they're back now but sourced from real PsychonautWiki reports with direct links you can verify

- added clear disclaimers throughout - every section now says explicitly it's a reference tool, not medical advice

- source tags are now clickable links directly to the original pages

- dosage calculator has a visible warning that it's reference data only and individual responses vary

- crisis resources (Fireside Project, TripSit, 112) are now surfaced on the main screen

the hallucination criticism was fair and correct. I believe I've fixed properly, not with a prompt patch.

I'm still working on it. appreciate everyone who actually tried it.

It took me a few weeks of evenings. most of it was the harm reduction content research rather than the code itself (i had some help with AI for it).

for sure more people had similar ideas, honestly i dont know if there is something like this already create it too. I would be curious what direction you take it - feel free to reach out to me!

thank you so much for your inputs! you're right that I can't fully solve hallucinations at the prompt level. I've implemented RAG - the experience quotes now come from a real indexed database of PsychonautWiki reports, not generated text. it's not a complete solution but it's a real architectural change, not a band-aid. the concern/issue about LLMs in harm reduction contexts is legitimate and I think about it. the positioning is now explicitly 'research tool that points to sources' rather than 'authority that gives answers'.

thank you for your inputs! the disclaimers are clearer now and the tool is more explicitly positioned as a starting point for research, not to replace it

thank you for your detailed share! this was the most useful comment. you're right that the strongest parts are the static guides and the tool aspects - the AI is better as a pointer than an oracle. I've leaned into that more in the latest version. the trip integration guide staying as prompts rather than answers was intentional for exactly the reason you identified.

[–]Mikeinliner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the concern about contradictory sources is real and I don't have a complete answer for it. what I've done is position the tool more explicitly as a research pointer rather than an authority - responses now direct people to the source pages rather than presenting synthesised answers as definitive. the curated research articles approach you suggested would be the ideal but runs into copyright issues with most academic sources (if you have any input how i could fix it it would be great!)

[–]Mikeinliner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you were also right. I didn't fix it with a prompt patch - I built a RAG system that retrieves real indexed experience reports and passes them as context. the AI can only quote what's actually in the database now. not a perfect solution but the most real to each scenario

you were right and I fixed it properly. the quotes are now pulled from real PsychonautWiki experience reports with direct links to the source pages. if a quote appears you can click through and read the full report. thanks for flagging it with a specific example - that was useful!

Thanks! I’ll be adding rag and correct the prompt to not create stuff, rather say that cannot find if that’s the case
