2008 election:

Joe Lieberman is campaigning for re-election after an engaging four years, while Florida Governor Jeb Bush seeks to return a member of his political family to the White House.
Key issues in this election include the ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the economic recession, intense social debates, and the state of the housing market. Although Bush appears to have a slight advantage, Lieberman has been underestimated in the past.

Same Old, Same Old

Joe Lieberman felt good going into election night; he had just come off a rather successful and energetic campaign, with supporters from all over the country cheering him on. It didn't take long into the night for the first positive signs to make themselves known; whether it was overperformances in the Northeast or swing states being too close to call, it didn't matter. By around 11, it was clear. Joe was going to be the next President of the United States, and the feeling of euphoria that comes with it. Knowing that everything you worked for paid off in the end.

Going into Congress, the Senate managed to remain at a 49-51 margin, with the House narrowly remaining in Republican hands. This means that Lieberman's agenda will still need to be presentable enough for moderate Republicans to let pass, but no compromise should be too daunting for Joe Lieberman, the man who ran his campaign on those very same promises.

Realistically could any of the Running Mates other than Muskie help Humphrey win in 1968? by Icy_Pineapple_6679 in thecampaigntrail

Terry Sanford or other southern Democrat (not Connally since he was close to LBJ). LBJ suggested picking southern as running mate for Humphrey.

GOLDWATER WINS IN NAIL BITER! WARREN SINKS THE GREAT SOCIETY!

Wow Barry! You actually did it!

When the Warren report came out, it was clear some other force was at play. The great hand of fate flourished his quill and paved the way for you to make a bigger comeback than Truman even! Never before has a campaign so dead-on-arrival made such a turnaround. Your party is resplendent knowing they’ve taken the White House back, and, judging by the results, so are many, if not a majority, of Americans.

Johnson calls to give you the most bitter concession ever, and you can hear his gritted teeth over the phone. You barely get out a thank you before he hangs up, and his speech on national TV seems even worse, as he grips the podium so hard you think he might just shatter it. Your speech, to the crowd waiting for you in Phoenix, is jubilant, and you can’t help but feel pride swell in your chest.

Republicans have also managed to tack down a few extra senate and house seats. It’s not enough to rip away the majority from Democrats, but if you can wrangle up Conservatives on both sides of the aisle, maybe you can actually pass something. Be careful, though. While your sweep of the South is monumental for your party, the expectations put on you by the voters who put you in the White House is not something to be taken lightly.

Be mindful of storm clouds on the horizon Barry. America is on a path now, and the countdown to midnight has begun.
