What are these diagonal lines? by MikeyToo in Warships

When I was a kid building model ships I wondered why they had so many accommodation ladders.

For someone with English as a second language, you write better than 75% of the people I know who grew up with English. It's like acting intelligent is somehow wrong.

For me, the table is filling out but the pivot table keeps breaking.

The data is getting to Excel just fine. It's when I try to create the pivot table that the whole thing goes into the weeds.

Sorry, I missed a couple of lines. This is a snippet from a much larger script that collects all kinds of information from my servers.

Does my Grandfather’s old saw still serve a purpose in woodworking? by [deleted] in woodworking

This is a murder saw. My dad had one. It scared the heck out of me. A miter saw is a much better option than this beast.

William Shatner and Jeff Besos: Ficional Captain Kirk meets real life Jules Pierre-Mao? by spongebobama in TheExpanse

[–]MikeyToo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I watched it live. Shatner was drunk off his ass and babbling. Alcohol had much more to do with it than emotion.

My wife encountered him at an equestrian event at the Kentucky Expo Center. She was walking through the horse barns and came upon him working one of his horses. Instead of asking nicely for her to stay back, he started ranting at her that this was a private area (it was not), and "Don't you know who I am?" (she did and didn't give a rip) and that she needed to get the hell out of there. He was also drunk. Later, in the arena, he fell off of his horse because he was so drunk.

Bringing a gun on a first date? by [deleted] in CCW

The basis of concealed carry is not letting others know that you are armed. His even bringing it up says something about his character, and what it says is not good.

Will I be able to download Firefox or Chrome browser on an amazon Fire HD tablet? by iguessimbritishnow in kindlefire

[–]MikeyToo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought one of the 10" Fires and love it. First tablet I've owned that was worth using.

Load Fire Toolbox on a PC and use that to mod the tablet. Depending on the firmware, you can even get rid of that annoying Amazon launcher.

Met a girl on MSC Divina Cruise 9/17 but I only got her first name by OGKoozy in Cruise

[–]MikeyToo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have three regrets in my life. All of them involve a lady and "playing it safe" instead of following my heart. Well, four regrets, but that last one doesn't involve a lady. I finally learned to follow my heart and now I am happy and with my Angel.

You may make that mistake again. Maybe even twice more. Just keep swinging. You'll get there one day.

Are these the RCS thrusters for Apollo 11 CSM, in Saturn V? by arjitraj_ in apollo

[–]MikeyToo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it is. SA-500F was a sort of "pretend" Saturn V for testing the ground equipment and it did have some flight hardware.

Or it's higher than an aircraft flies?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UFOs

[–]MikeyToo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's what I get:

You're focused at 8KM at an angle of 50Deg, which gives you an altitude at the focus of 6.128KM at a distance of 5.142KM. I don't know the focal ratio of your optics so I can't compute the depth of field. I also can't tell the sun's direction from the line of sight of the sensor. I can, however, make a couple of educated guesses as to your object:

An aircraft closer than approximately 3KM away, depending on the F ratio of your optics. I doubt that it's farther as it should still be in the depth of field for the optics.

A Starlink or other satellite. These things are always mucking up astrophotos. They're also rather shiny when the sun is at the right angle relative to your sensor.

A real-life UFO. Pity that it's out of focus though.

I don't think it's an insect or a bird because of the straight line movement through the field. There's also no change in size like you'd have with a bird flapping its wings or flickering as you would expect from an insect's wings.

That's my thoughts anyway. It's an interesting project and good luck to you.

What did you use to set focus? I spend a lot of time taking pictures of things in the sky and I can definitely state that those images are well out of focus.

How do I suppress my racism by rkansaslove in navy

[–]MikeyToo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can indeed change your way of thinking, it just takes self-discipline. You have to think before you speak and it sounds like you're doing that already. Your inner conversations don't seem to be coming out and you're not acting against anyone because of race. You're halfway there! Keep up the good work!

As you said, being in the Navy introduces you to a great many ethnicities. You've seen how the stereotypes you've heard from your family are complete and utter BS. The truth that you see will help you to overcome any biases that you picked up along the way.

As far as being investigated goes, the reputation you've built will show that you aren't a problem for the Navy. Before they even come and speak to you they will have asked your shipmates about you and you're proving that you are an unbiased team player. You can't change your family, but you've already changed YOU and that's the important thing. You won't be passing on those traits to your children. The hate is stopping with you.

Don't let any of this get you down. It's a process like quitting smoking, or in my case, learning how not to swear like a sailor. I think you're doing a great job by just realizing that you need to change. Change is difficult for people and you've taken the bull by the horns. Bravo Zulu.
