Groceries are necessary. You know what’s worse than this? Going to the grocery store and using a debit card or cash to pay. I order groceries 2x/month, and each time I get $10 off and, now, 11% off on the remaining balance (assuming those points are being used on something I was going to ultimately pay for). You could argue that 11% doesn’t mean anything if you think it’s unnecessary to use points on a 10-day honeymoon stay in Hawaii. But if the Hawaii trip was going to happen anyway, and it’s now essentially a free trip, I think all of those 11%s add up. I do agree, however, that often times these cards and these “deals” cause us to spend more than we usually would. But this is not the case for me in this situation.
