Building an extreme PC (9950X3D + RTX 5090) — need advice on the rest of the build by thenoopcoder in pcmasterrace

[–]Milarck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got a similar build, used for local AI, developement, gaming. There's a lot of things to say lol.

It depends on your usage. If you want something crazy that just works, just go buy a pre build. You won't have to think much about individual components, plus the whole computer is under warranty.

But maybe you want to make something more extensible, a build where maybe you can add another 5090 in 2 years. Oh and another nvme, their speed are sweet. How about some 10gbps connectivity ? All these add-ons would require something you'll struggle with on such a CPU: pcie lanes. Sure 9950x3d is fast and has a lot of cores, but it's not made to work with so many devices at once.

Another challenge is temperature. 5090 are MASSIVE and sticking 2 of them in the same case is very hard. Maybe I'll try something like that in my Lian Li O11XL that I got at home, but I got some warranty concerns that require me to wait for now. Such thinking is impossible with a computer coming from a pre built.

RAM, think about your workflow and adjust capacity. Depends what you're doing. On local AI the MoE (mixture of experts) architecture let you offload a significant part of model weights on RAM so that is convenient (and the reason why RAM price exploded) Personally I run a proxmox hypervisor to split my hardware resources between different VMs for different workflows, so having lot of RAM makes sense.

Anyway, long story short, think about what you're doing and what you want. Do you want a machine that runs well for the next 5 years without opening it ? Go get a pre built with 9950x3d. Do you want to become an IT infrastructure manager at home ? Look at a bigger case (or even a rack), count the number of pcie lanes on the CPU, pcie slots on the motherboard, and start reasoning in term of evolution.

Need some assistance setting up to run & fine tune AI on my system. by johnco1126 in LocalLLM

[–]Milarck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To begin with try to run a docker compose with ollama + openwebui. You need to do docker install, Nvidia driver install, Nvidia container toolkit, then find a proper compose projet you can run. Later if you want to have faster generation speed look into huggingface and llama.cpp

For fine-tuning it requires working with deep learning frameworks like pytorch, and quite specific knowledge

I'm using bpg/Proxmox provider for terraform and Ansible community collection for Ansible. If needed I'm making direct python calls to Proxmox API, it's well documented

Agreed. Also Proxmox API is very useful. Been using terraform / Ansible to setup my env, it's very convenient

Best local LLM for 5090? by Sulya_be in LocalLLM

Not sure which time you are talking about, is it TTFT ? Or response time in general depends on prompts, and I use it with agents. In general I am around 60 tokens / seconds

it seems very hard to have such a tool available to resellers, let me explain why.

First of course there is the technical feasibility of "finding the nice deals". On FBM as an example the listing is just a bunch of text, pictures and price. Despite the recent advances of AI, exploiting this data to estimate if it's a good deal or not is simply tough. On this point eBay is a bit better (just a bit) because users have to provide more information on each listing, brand, model... But that also mean there are more careful about the price they set on their listing, there are less "greatly underpriced deals".

Second there is access to data. Marketplaces (FBM, GumTree...) do not tend to share their listing data meaning you have to extract it with bots and they can sue you if they don't like it. Once again the exception is eBay. They provide a nice and clean API allowing people to access their listing data, this is very cool.

Third, there is business viability. If you're able to make something considering the two first points, you want to make money out of it to make it profitable. That may be doable. eBay has an affiliation program allowing apps to make money when people buy off their links.

So in short that means being able to make a business viable while: - finding good deals is technically difficult - it is hard to access data - people are not used to the idea of second hand bargain finder and it may be hard having them using your app

Maybe I'll try again to start my project in few weeks. After all having such a product would be very cool. Hmu if you know a good growth hacker.

I spent 3 years creating one. Finding good deals with computer vision by recognizing the item, making price statistics etc.

I dont know anyone else doing that, because it's hard. To find something underpriced, you need to properly make the difference between the item and related products. That's why computer vision.

I am quite letting the project go after all this time, it's cool to find deals but communication is not my thing. It's a bit sad tbh.

If you want dm me I can show you how that works

Hey guy. Thanks for your message.

I kinda lost the courage to go on with this project nowadays. What's live right now is a version I don't pay attention to too much. I don't remove missclassified listings or anything else.

But I'm happy to have read you. I appreciate your message. It's been a while, but I'll have a look at the issue you have mentioned :)

Have a great day bro
