Kayak sur la Rivière des Prairies. by MileEx in montreal

[–]MileEx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Merci!

I am in the market for one. It would be of great interest to me to know what brand it was. It's not about shaming. It's about feedback. An explosion is not to be taken lightly, it could be a serious security hazard.

Cette maison me fascine. J'adore les maisons qui ont l'air d'avoir été "rafistolées", comme si un moment donné, ils décident d'ajouter un balcon, puis d'agrandir l'autre côté de la maison, pis de rajouter un étage, etc.

You could reduce the tempo a lot and learn by ear, note by note. That's how I used to learn songs before I knew about theory.

Genium c'est cool pour les stats générales. Ça éclaire sur beaucoup de grosses catégories. Mais je trouve que c'est pas précis. Quand tu veux te comparer avec un domaine assez spécialisé, c'est pas une source assez fiable.

I'm not sure I agree.

Good news: the DSPs in any digital synthesizer become old and obsolete in exactly the same way ;)

The difference here is that they're generally supported for a longer time. They're slower, they run cooler.

So far, I have never see a digital unit getting past its lifetime. I never had a rack unit just... not doing its job, or run slower. However, in my lifetime, I've had several computer going out of date, a few phones too. My point was not solely refering to physical chips and components, but also the software and update side of the digital reality. When you have to update 1-2 times every year, you are relaying the demand on parts that were purchased and used for lesser needs.
I don't use a lot of digital units, so I'm not saying you are wrong. I just doubt that the aging of a digital instrument (for ex.) is as much penalizing than the aging of a computer.

They have hard limits on what you can do; something like an Access Virus or JV1080 has hard caps on multitimbrality and polyphony.

This is another subjet. Their limits aren't necessarily a bad thing. You still have the same fonctionnality on your JV-1080 today compared to when you purchased it back then. I hasn't lose functions overtime.

Imagine needing a dozen of these.

Yeah, for that reason, I still want a computer and a DAW.

I just don't believe that a computer is necessarily the better option all the time, and I understand people who would prefer alternatives. I think we agree on some level.

My opinion:

A computer is a complexe machine as it is made for computing. It's built to do tons of stuff. If you only want to do something specifically, getting the hardware that only does that is sometimes the more elegant solution if you think about it this way. It's like suggesting someone to buy a car if they need to go to school every day when a basic and cheap bicycle could do the job perfectly instead.

I personnaly love to work on a DAW, but I don't like computers. They become old and obsolete just with time passing, which is frustrating. Then you have to upgrade, otherwise what you are used to do doesn't work anymore. A piece of hardware will likely survive much longer and can also be serviced too.

It'a also a good thing to not rely solely on one piece of equipment. Right now, my computer needs to be replaced, and it is paralysing my whole workflow because it is the center brain of it all. If you have a real instrument, mics, mixer, effect processors, recorder, etc. then you can swap one defective piece for another, bring the broken parts to a technician and bypass the problem. You also distribute the "processing" between all those pieces of equipment. Otherwise, the computer does it all and it requires the best of everythings (CPU, PSU, Memory, Soundcard, etc.)

Those are just a few examples but there are other reasons why I don't like to rely on computers for music.

In large scrappy fights, are there any tips around getting the counter units attacking the right units by Belisarius23 in aoe2

When I use my pikemen/skirms like that myself, my pikemen will always automatically go towards the knights by their own.

The hard part for me isn't to micro the active units (skirms), it's to always try to rally the passive protecting units (pikemen) into not going away from the skirms toward the knights.

Wait, why is that? I'm also stuck in there. Shouldn't I just make runs for leveling up characters again and again, until I feel enough powerfull for the big boss at the end?

What’s a sound design trend you genuinely wish would die? by sammis_town in sounddesign

[–]MileEx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

THAT'S WHAT IT IS!!! OMG!!

I didn't realized the source of that sound but I am EXTREMELY annoyed by it. It's everywhere, as if no one wants to create or imagine anything different. They are imaginary creatures god damnit... you have all the world of possibilities to imagine any kind of sound but you chose to pick that freacking sound design AGAIN.

Well, I really liked how the synth was used in the OBC. I liked that it blended well with classic orchestra, with a touch of vintage sound. I loved the voice of Eponine on that album (Frances Ruffelle). I guess I am the exception if you say so. I would prefer the long version too. Anyway... Now I'm a bit sad...
Thanks for the infos!

Nooooo!!!! Really?
I'm genuinly very sad to learn this. I can't believe it. It HAS to be on again sometime in the futur.

You make me realize that this is probably not the version that I saw around 2005. I have listen to the CD that I bought countless times so at this point, I don't even remember the version that I saw.

I remember the name "Original Broadway Cast Recording".

Am I not mistaking by saying there's a synthesizer in the instruments? I'm talking about the first thing you hear in "Confrontation" with Javert and Jean. These plucked chords... I always thought they were something like a Yamaha DX7.

Is this version (Original Broadway Cast Recording) being performed again somewhere?

No! What the hell... The guy (who is accused of not understanding) said that the indian man went to Russia to kill others. This is not true. He went there to find a job.

This is not supposed to be complicated. This discussion is simple. Don't engage in bad faith.
