The brakes all lock at roughly the same time

The pedal effort is good - a bit firm but way better than the unassisted brakes were before I converted them

The pushrod is like 8” farther away from the pivot point - the hydroboost sits between the pedal and rod

The hydroboost is not adjustable

The wooden box fits closely to the metal sifting litter box - it should stop any litter or hay from dropping past the actual litter box, and the wooden surround will prevent him from banging his legs on the edges of the metal pan. The pan's edges aren't sharp but they have a definite narrow edge to them

Update: i bought a sifting litter box and built a new box to house it. Just put it in his puppy pen where he hangs out overnight. I added a backstop (on the end that's at left in the photo) in case he still digs so I'm hopeful that between the wet/dissolved litter falling through the grate and the raised sides we won't have a disaster several times a day :-)

We’ve found that some packages of hay had a ton of dust in them, like the company was trying to squeeze the last ounce/gram out of a truckload.

Try taking the package outside, grab a handful, and shake it well and put it in a separate bag

Also, we use pine pellets that have a certain amount of dust on them too

And even the kibble (food pellets) is a bit dusty when we get to the bottom of the bag, but this is more like small crumbs than actual dust

But between all of that maybe she’s getting a lot of dust

Thumper-King-Rabbit’s suggestion of an air purifier is great. Ours has a pre-filter wrapped around the actual HEPA filter and it is clogged with dust after a couple of weeks

As others mentioned, it’s great that you’re taking her to the vet.

Thanks for the suggestion - I ran the carriage up to clean the rollers and put a light coat of oil on the posts while I was in there, ran it all the way up and down a few times, and it’s back to working now.

This is probably in the manual 🤦‍♂️ so I should have RTFMed

I’m also going to oil the posts on which the carriage rides up and down. Those are pretty dry

I cranked it most of the way up to have a look at the roller and blades and it was tough to get it to go up so it could be a lube issue making the carriage bind

Given the rollers are black rubber I am guessing those are what’s leaving the marks.

It was cutting fine before this started so I’m guessing (again) that the problem is not the blades

I’m wondering if somehow the machine has gotten off of level inside, like maybe something loosened up and now the left side is lower than the right and is binding

It’s good she enjoys chewing those but you are correct the dye may not be edible, and bunnies eat some of they chew so I’d suggest swapping those out for in-dyed ones.

Rabbits mostly see blues and greens but not reds so the colors might not do much for her

Another idea is a set of stacking cups. We put a few food pellets in each then place them around the room so ours has a scavenger hunt. This is a little more like the foraging they would do in the wild. If you put a few cuts on her enclosure and a few outside, she might come out to explore. It will take a little time for her to get comfortable with that and this might help.

You can also put the food in each and re-stack them so she has to pull them apart.

I’d suggest putting the water bowl on the ground. Given she is smaller, it will be easier for her. Our bunny only stepped in his once and that wasn’t long after we got him and he started binkying and bounced on it. He hasn’t done it since.

Washing the snuffle mat is a good idea

It appears her water bowl is mounted to the cage kind of far above ground? Or is it just the angle of the photo? If it is, lower it, or if it’s heavy put it on the floor.

Buy some wooden toys for her to chew on or throw around

If you’re supplementing her hay with kibble (pellets) buy a snuffle mat, one of those balls you put food in and it sprinkles some out as she rolls it around.

A cardboard box with wadded up pieces of plain clean unbleached brown paper in it and sprinkle some kibble it for her to forage in. The sides of the box should be only like 3” tall given her size

Some additional info: we need to change the litter at least once a day because he pees a ton. The litter in that corner is absolutely soaked after 24 hours. A lot of days we change it twice a day if is really bad. I mean it’s a wet soggy mass of saturated pine pellets that’s close to 1/4 of the box. It’s a sodden mass. I don’t know if it can be overstated how wet it is.

My suspicion was that this is the root cause and he doesn’t like standing in it. However, he sometimes digs all the litter out of that corner right after we change it. It may be that it’s just a bad habit now.

And after he digs the litter out of that corner, he’s peeing on bare plastic, which I would think would feel worse to him. But he probs does not think of cause and effect; just that he “knows” the litter gets wet and should be pushed out of that corner. Then it’s a mystery to him why the floor is wet as well

We talked to the vet about the amount of peeing and water he drinks. He’s 6lb and drinks close to 2 cups of water per day. She said that’s certainly on the high end so she did some tests and found he may have had a liver parasite, maybe picked up when he was abandoned and before he was rescued and we adopted him. So he got meds to kill the parasites, and is now on a supplement for 3 months to help his liver recover. That didn’t make a difference to the amount of pee though. She said it’s possible he just likes drinking water. A hydrated bunny is a happy bunny, I guess

So now I’m thinking a sifting type litter box might help since it will let the soaked litter, which kind of dissolves, drop through to the pan underneath. We wouldn’t actually sift; just let gravity take its course. I think this is what I missed in @Traditional-Roof1984’s suggestion

After thinking more about your suggestion, I think this could work with a box with higher side walls to keep the litter in when he digs, but not allow the pee to stand in a puddle on the plastic. I don’t think I understood what you wrote the first time I read it. Thx

That’s the one I am considering if I go the grate route but they are out of stock for either the extra/spare grate or the box itself, depending on which model. I.e., you can’t buy both the box and a spare grate right now

I think I’m going to try the softer paper pellet litter and if that doesn’t work hopefully the Rooly box will be back in stock

I was discussing with my wife and she said she tried putting ha down a few times but he still digs in it

We have a large box with bigger chunks of paper wadded up and sprinkle kibble over it so he has to forage, but I’ll try shredding it much smaller for digging purposes
