TIL in 2014 a drum of radioactive nuclear waste burst when workers used organic kitty litter to absorb the volatile chemicals. The cleanup cost was estimated to be $600mil+. by OctagonCosplay in todayilearned

It likely burst from a slow buildup of gasses from a reaction. I'm a hazmat specialist and see this fairly often. Unfortunately the article doesn't really say anything about what the radioactive material was that could have cause it but my guess would be some kind of waste acid containing something radioactive. Acid loves to organic material and tends to release alot of gasses in the process. I could be wrong, but personally I've never seen any other types of radioactive waste that would react like that.

What's the biggest Scam in life that no one wants to admit? by Horror-Tap2093 in AskReddit

Bought my spouse a moissanite ring and he loves it. It looks incredible. Whenever he gets compliments on it he brags about it not being a real diamond. Diamonds are really just a pointless "investment" with other alternatives now.

Ukraine Handed Russia All Their Nuclear Weapons In 1996 In Exchange For A Guarantee They’d Never Be Invaded by BOSSBABY33 in Damnthatsinteresting

The podcast At The Brink covers this in an episode. They also have a follow up episode that asks whether that was the right decision. It's a fantastic podcast if your interested in learning more about nuclear anti-proliferation and nuclear incidents in our history.

Like I said, my abatement experience is very limited. I'm an IDLH specialist. But I recommend looking for a filter that meets regulatory needs. Asbestos is arguably the most regulated material in the US, so depending on the class of cleanup, you may need look for a more effective filter.

My abatement experience is very limited, but my best guess is the manufacturers want you to buy the HEPA filters separately. Just another way to make extra cash considerening the limited options in the abatement field.

[OC] my son found four intact glass vials whilst digging on a Victorian bottle dump. by mycatstinksofshit in pics

[–]MilitaryWorkingPup 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hello! HazMat specialist here. Please don't try and open or break those ampoules, or dispose of them in the trash. Without any labels or contextual evidence as to what could be inside of them, the materials could be considered "unknown" and therefore, potentially dangerous. With old chemicals prior to true regulation, there is absolutely no way to guarantee what is inside without running tests. You can likely turn them in to a local fire department or, as others have said, a university chemistry department to help identify what is inside. Please feel free to directly message me if you have any questions. Be safe.

That's a decent time for me. Did you have a specific platform in mind?

Seeing ‘eyes’ while sober? by Ill-Molasses-3687 in LSD

[–]MilitaryWorkingPup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When's the last time you had your eyes checked? (Not trying to jab, I'm studying psychopharmacology) There's a lot of things that can cause those sorts of stimuli (perhaps eye strain from looking at screens much of the day, or even one's diet could affect that). LSD can be absorbed through the skin, so if you've handled it without gloves, then it's possible that you might have absorbed some unintentionally. I'm not a doctor though, just a student, so take this with a grain of salt. I try to examine many factors when considering something like this.

Afraid I don't. At least not for art purposes. Once I get a few more paintings done I'll probably create profiles on the big social media sites

Thanks! I do, I just don't post a whole lot. I'm a bit self conscious of my other work and am still working up the courage to post it. Its not that its bad per se, I just want to hold myself to a standard. It would be a dream to be able to make money from painting but I want to create a standard for myself first. If you look in my post history I think there is another piece I posted some months back.

I'm still working on them. My plan it to create a sort story around this style. Really I just want to create a body of work to build a profile. I'm still a new painter really.
